Qtel Brings Financial Services To All In Qatar

Published Dec 26, 2010

Qtel’s Mobile Money programme will provide the people of Qatar with the most comprehensive suite of financial services available via the mobile phone, it was revealed.

The new portfolio of services, called Qtel Mobile Money, has been designed to provide financial services for everyone in Qatar, whether or not they hold a bank account, and to ensure that everyone has access to a safer, faster, and more cost effective route to manage their money with their mobile phone.
Qtel is working side by side with QNB, the leading financial institution in Qatar and the most trusted financial service provider, to deliver the highest levels of security and convenience for customers of the new Qtel Mobile Money services. Qtel is also liaising with favourite retailers and merchants across the country, so that people will be able to buy goods and services using their Mobile Money accounts.

Qtel’s Mobile Money suite of services has been tested and enhanced throughout 2010, to ensure the highest levels of reliability and security for Qtel customers. All funds used in Qtel’s Mobile Money services will be held in trust by QNB.

One of the aims of the ambitious Qtel Mobile Money programme is to help make Qatar one of the leading countries in the world where people who do not have bank accounts or those who are under served by banks can avail themselves of key services in a cost effective way via their mobile phones.

Qtel is expanding the range of Mobile Money services following the success of the launch of International Airtime Credit transfer in October 2010, which enables Qtel customers to transfer credit to India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka through an established airtime network.

Thousands of customers have used this service since its launch, underlining the importance of cost effective money management and transfer solutions for people in Qatar.

In the near future, the people of Qatar will be able to send money and credit as easily as an SMS, supported by the most comprehensive level of security. Among the range of services planned for launch in 2011 are instant cash transfers, cash payments to shops via mobile, and even cash withdrawal from ATMs using Qtel Mobile Money accounts.

Qtel’s aim is to provide as comprehensive a service as possible in the next launch phase, providing key money management and transaction services to everyone in Qatar who can benefit from them, mindfully representing the diverse money and remittance needs of the people of Qatar.
