Wasl Asset Management Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by the National Computer Emergency Team (aeCERT), according to which aeCERT will provide Wasl with its expertise in terms of awareness and data safeguarding against threats.
The MoU was signed by HE Hesham Abdullah Al Qassim, CEO of Wasl Asset Management Group, and HE Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of the TRA, on behalf of their respective organisations.
The agreement is in line with Wasl Group's belief in the importance of providing a safe electronic environment so that individuals and businesses can safely enjoy the benefits of Information and Security Technology.
The agreement aims to secure the company against cyber threats, which often aim to destroy a company's IT infrastructure or seek to access confidential information.
Speaking on the occasion, Al Qassim said, "Most government bodies and authorities are currently in the process of shifting to electronic systems, in accordance with the vision of the UAE government.
Their daily tasks and services are performed via electronic systems and networks, and it is therefore of paramount importance to provide adequate protection for the Information and Communications Technology infrastructure.
The agreement will allow Wasl to benefit from aeCERT's expertise in securing cyber environments. The high speed response and quality services delivered by aeCERT are imperative for maintaining a safe electronic environment," he added.
Al Qassim hailed TRA's efforts, saying: "Everyone is aware of TRA's achievements with regard to electronic systems and networks for both government and private organisations, but further progress in this field is still required. The provision of a safe electronic environment is the responsibility of the private sector, as well as of the government entities".
We at wasl Group are continuously striving to build long term, sustainable value, to adopt all measures necessary to achieve Dubai's vision, and to exceed our clients' expectations. The provision of a safe electronic environment will not only further enhance our customer service quality, but also improve security. Information security is one of our top priorities due to its critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction and quality performance, and providing protection for clients' data will help us achieve our mission of further improving client service in accordance with our strategic plan," Al Qassim added.
HE Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim stressed the importance of this agreement for TRA and expressed the Authority's delight at achieving this step, which is part of a series of pioneering steps aimed at developing comprehensive growth standards. "TRA's strategy aims to secure a safe electronic space for the UAE, its citizens and residents, and the aeCERT will provide services that will improve the safety of IT infrastructure through education, awareness, consultancy, monitoring, response, research and analysis," he said.
Al Ghanim also provided a brief overview of aeCERT's objectives, which include improving current cyber security laws and assisting in the creation of new laws; enhancing information security awareness across the UAE; building national expertise in information security, incident management and computer forensics; providing a trusted central point of contact for cyber security incident reporting in the UAE; establishing a national centre to disseminate information about threats, vulnerabilities and cyber security incidents; coordinating with domestic and international Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and related organisations; and becoming an active member of recognised security organisations and forums.
