Innovation on Display for the Qtel Group at GSMA Barcelona 2011

The Qtel Group is participating in the Mobile World Congress 2011 event in Barcelona for the fourth year. sharing an enhanced range of innovations and exciting services with the international telecommunications community.
His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of the Qtel Group, will lead the delegation, which will include senior representatives from across its regional operations.
Over the past five years, the Qtel Group managed to build a solid foundation rapidly growing from a single operator in Qatar with 500 thousand customers to 17 markets in Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, with a customer base of 69 million .
This foundation has enabled the Group to launch a new wave of innovation across these markets, including signing major partnerships and framework agreements with leading global players, and creating group wide processes for sharing ideas and best practice.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress event, the Group will profile significant new innovations in the fields of social networking, mobile money, and entertainment, as well as entirely new service areas.
Organized by the GSMA Association, the Mobile World Congress brings together 1,300 companies and 47,000 mobile professionals from 182 countries every year.
Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Qtel, said: “By 2015, more than 1 billion people will access the internet through mobile phones, transforming the mobile industry altogether.

As part of the Qtel Group’s development strategy, the company has invested in mobile Broadband, building both the network infrastructure and the service portfolio that customers increasingly require to get the most out of their Internet experience.
Dr. Nasser explains: “Driven by the increased capacity offered by improved Broadband technology and by the growing hunger from customers, particularly younger consumers, the market is undergoing a transformation. We believe that the Qtel Group, given its market positioning and our ongoing investment in innovation, is ideally placed to capitalise on these changes.
Qtel Group’s success in the field of mobile services has already been demonstrated with the regional launch of Backstage, the Qtel Group’s innovative music service in partnership with Universal Music, Mazzika and Melody, which was announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress event in 2010. Since its launch, the service has reached out to a large audience of music fans across four major markets.
A two storey pavilion strategically located in zone 3 will reflect The Qtel Group portfolio of services and products, including an innovation zone featuring some of the latest services and applications, in addition to offering relaxed atmosphere and dedicated space for meetings and presentations.
