Winners Of Panasonic Eco Diary Competition To Design Hybrid Toy Car

Published Feb 15, 2011

Winners of Panasonic Eco Diary competition, from across the region designed a hybrid toy car and recognised at a gala ceremony in Dubai.

6 to 12 year old students, from Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria and United Arab Emirates, learnt about ‘Monozukuri’ the Japanese spirit of manufacturing and about the effective use of energy at a special workshop designed for eco learning.

Panasonic aims to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in Middle East as part of Panasonic's group wide global commitment to drive eco innovation by 2018, the 100th anniversary of its foundation.

To achieve this goal, the company is pursuing its Eco Ideas for Lifestyles by promoting sustainable and comfortable green lifestyles as well as Eco Ideas for Business styles with aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations to a maximum extent and spread technologies and ideas that are brought forth through such reduction efforts. Panasonic is combining these environmental efforts and business growth.

The competition, which began on 13th of September 2010, ran for month, and the children had to illustrate and express the same in writing the eco friendly activity carried out at school or at home that are linked to protecting and saving the environment in the special “Eco Picture Diary”.

This is a great opportunity for children and their families, as well as schools, to get involved in a diary competition that aims to teach young kids from a very early age about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment,” commented Anthony Peter, Associate Director, Direct Communications & Customer Care (DCCC) Group, Panasonic Marketing Middle East FZE.

Children worked alone on their diaries or in groups. For individuals, the child made an Eco Diary that had five days of activity; no more than five children were in one group and they submitted one common diary. In either case, the diaries consisted of a total of five pages of illustrations of their activities and explanations.

Learning about global warming at school, noticing eco bags at supermarkets or observing healthy trees and flowers in local gardens are just some subjects that children wrote and drew about.

For activities, kids were encouraged to participate in any activity that helps the environment and to use these as diary entries. Examples of some of the activities were helping with recycling at home, planting a tree at school or observations made which they believe are both good and bad for the environment.

Panasonic strongly believes that teaching values surrounding the subject of a healthy environment at an early age will help develop a better understanding the need to protect our world.
