NAVTEQ Agreement With International Marketing Services Goes Global

Published Feb 15, 2011

NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location based services and mobile advertising around the world is to supply International Marketing Services (IMS) with global map coverage plus map updates on micro SD cards ready for distribution to consumers in the MENA region.

IMS is the sole distributor in the region for several leading navigation system brands and has established a solid wholesale and retail channel. The company’s consumer target audience is very international and therefore there is a need to offer global map coverage.

We have worked with NAVTEQ and used its map data in the majority of our products for many years,” explained Marwan Khawaja, General Manager, IMS. “We appreciate NAVTEQ’s commitment to the market and our close business relationship allows the availability of quality data for our customers in the region and provides a foundation for further co-operation which is a win win situation for all concerned.

Currently available for 84countries on six continents, the NAVTEQ map contains hundreds of attributes crucial to precise navigation including, for example, one way streets, turn and access restrictions or speed categories.

In addition there are a range of advanced features such as Extended Lanes and 3D landmarks. The Extended Lanes function guides drivers into the right lane at complex junctions using voice, text, or visual prompts whereas 3D Landmarks help orientation in unfamiliar surroundings by displaying photorealistic images of prominent local landmarks.

NAVTEQ works to a worldwide specification which supports seamless cross border travel but, at the same time, also understands the importance of incorporating country specific nuances and details into its maps.

Our objective is to develop and maintain a map database which can enable drivers with navigation devices to travel with the confidence of a local wherever they are in the world,” added Ghassan Freij, NAVTEQ General Manager MENA. “We are also committed to expanding our presence in the MENA region which is underlined by this new agreement with IMS.”
