Microsoft Jordan and The Water Sector Empower ICT Staff of the Sector by Providing Training on Microsoft’s SharePoint Platform

Published Feb 17, 2011

In collaboration with the Water sector and the Information Technology Master Plan Implementation Phase (ITMP-IP) project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Microsoft Jordan provided training to 17 Government employees from the Water sector on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, through its partner Devosis, to empower the staff members to make a strategic impact on the Water sector including all its subsidiaries.

Microsoft held a ceremony in 2011 delivering certificates to the Government employees for their successful completion of the five week training course. The training coincides with the development and deployment of a collaboration platform for the Water sector based on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, the software application of choice adopted by the Water sector.

Mahmoud Alshaloul, CIO of the Water sector, stated, “The sector started to use Microsoft SharePoint technology since the year 2005 and based on the success and the added value of such technology the Water sector decided to roll out this technology across the sector including water companies.

Further to this the sector took a step ahead towards building a collaboration core team to automate cross sectoral processes and work procedures aiming to save money, effort and time in providing ultimate quality services to citizens and helping the sector to take decisions based on water data.

On the other hand this automation will help Water sector employees to do more and serve more during their working hours. This intensive training should empower the team to implement the vision of converting the working environment to paperless office and to increase the greenery within the Water sector day to day activities.

I hope this core team will be one of the examples that prove the team work spirit in the Water sector and deliver the real value of information and communications technology (ICT) in the Water sector.

Finally many thanks for Microsoft Jordan, USAID, my unit ICTU-HQ, and the ITMP-IP team for their support and commitment that made such a thing become true.

USAID Jordan’s Dr. Aiman Bani Hani, stated, “USAID Jordan Mission through the ITMP-IP has worked closely with the Water sector on a comprehensive set of strategic plans and actions required to successfully build the capacity of the sector.

This work has started with the collaboration between the Water sector, USAID and Microsoft on the SharePoint rollout. The Water sector will benefit from this work by having better access to information, improved collaboration and information sharing.

This comprehensive approach lays out a foundation for greater productivity, money savings and better services.” Ahmad Almadadha, Public Sector Account Technology Strategist for Microsoft Jordan, stated, “With such a broad footprint and many customers to serve across Jordan, effective collaboration and communication among the employees is critical.

With the Microsoft SharePoint collaboration tool all intranets, extranets, and Web applications across the Water sector are supported with one integrated platform, which allows the employees within the six entities to better collaborate.

leading to higher quality of services delivered by exchanging documents, automating processes and delivering end to end services to customers and citizens.

In an effort to enhance collaboration and build stronger connections among the entities of the Water sector of Jordan, which include the Ministry of Water, Water Authority of Jordan, Miyahuna, Water Company of Aqaba, Jordan Valley Authority and the Program Management Unit.

The Water sector deployed the Microsoft SharePoint Platform to develop a new sector intranet that will provide the employees with easier access to documents, information, and business applications.

The capabilities of SharePoint work together to help organizations quickly respond to changing business needs.

Using SharePoint, employees can share ideas and expertise, create custom solutions for specific needs, and find the right business information to make better decisions.
