Thuraya announced the launch of the new Seagull 5000i solution in partnership with Addvalue Communications Pte Ltd., as part of its maritime communications portfolio. The specialised marine terminal is designed for small vessels or fishing boats and provides voice, data, SMS and fax services that are based exclusively over Thuraya’s satellite network.
The innovative Seagull 5000i is a maritime satellite communication device that meets the needs of customers that require a high quality, cost effective satellite communications solution. The new terminal was officially introduced to the market during the 2011 Dubai Boat Show and was on display in March 2011.
The Seagull 5000i’s data capabilities enable it to transmit vital information such as ship’s identity, position with the date and time stamp, which is increasingly becoming a mandatory requirement for many national maritime and fishery authorities in Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT).
The customized FaxConnect interface device to the Seagull 5000i, allows the user to send G3 faxes from anywhere within the Thuraya coverage area to other G3 fax machines across the globe, making it a highly versatile marine terminal for regional sea vessels.
Thuraya’s superior satellite network covers ports and harbours in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia. It also covers the seas, oceans and international waters that these ports serve, making it the natural choice for Addvalue.
The Seagull 5000i terminal is an exciting addition to our maritime portfolio. The combination of the Seagull 5000i’s innovative technology and the expanse of our satellite network coverage ensure that regional operators of sea vessels have an advanced, yet affordable communication solution.
This new terminal further demonstrates Thuraya’s commitment to provide effective satellite communications at sea,” said Thuraya’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Samer Halawi.
Commenting on the launch, Dr. Colin Chan, CEO of Singapore based communications specialists Addvalue elaborated, “Launching the Seagull 5000i maritime solution in partnership with Thuraya who has a robust and reliable network will strengthen our product portfolio.
The terminal, which has been well tested and proven in sea trials, provides superior voice, data SMS and fax services which allow regional sea vessels to function as remote offices whenever they are within Thuraya’s vast coverage area.
