PR 01 Panasonic Launches Lake Victoria Project

Panasonic Marketing Middle East FZE (PMM) announced its partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in the project dubbed “Lake Victoria Catchment Environment Education Programme”. This initiative is in line with their Eco Ideas Declaration for the Middle East and Africa, by which the company aims to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in the Middle East.

This affirmation is part of Panasonic's group wide global commitment to drive eco innovation by 2018, the 100th anniversary of its foundation.

To achieve this goal, the company is pursuing its Eco Ideas for Lifestyles by promoting sustainable and comfortable green lifestyles as well as Eco Ideas for Business styles with aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations to a maximum extent and spread technologies and ideas that are brought forth through such reduction efforts. Panasonic is combining these environmental efforts and business growth.

Panasonic is strongly committed to conserving the environment. As a global leader in the electronics industry, it is our duty to ensure a sustainable future. We pledge to reduce CO2 emissions by 15% from our facility and double the sales of our industry leading environmentally conscious products in the region,” said Mr. Seiji Koyanagi, Managing Director of Panasonic Middle East & Africa. “We will also encourage Panasonic employees to lead conservation efforts in cooperation with the local communities,” he continued.

The Panasonic/ WWF partnership project is designed to empower catchment communities, schools and regional partners with the knowledge, motivation and abilities for sustainable use and management of natural resources.

Through this project, we aim to be environmental conscious and instill a sense of ecological responsibility in our youth by training them to be proactive in protecting their world for the sake of their future,” said Mr. Mohammed Awer, Country Director, WWF Kenya Country Office.

One school each from Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya will be transformed into a green model school where students will be encouraged to develop and sustain a green idea. Students will be encouraged to be environmentally responsible and act as citizens of the earth to take action to protect the planet. They will be encouraged to form a discussion forum between children in the region and the outside world on the web.
