Barwa And Qtel Sign Strategic Agreement

Published Mar 17, 2011

Qtel today concluded a strategic partnership agreement with Barwa Real Estate, one of Qatar’s leading real estate investment companies in Qatar and the region.

The agreement sets out the terms and conditions applicable to the delivery of telecommunications services on estates being developed by Barwa, including the provision of fixed and mobile telecommunications infrastructure and services, the installation of copper cable, fibre cabling and active and passive equipment required to manage, operate, and maintain their communications network.

For master developers and construction companies, strong communications network support is an essential service that enables them to keep their operations online in the event of accidents or service disruptions.

His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani, Chairman of Qtel, said: “Real estate is a vital industry for Qatar that will continue to play a key role in the nation’s development. Qtel has invested in a number of bespoke solutions for the real estate sector, and we’re delighted to be providing in-depth support for Barwa Real Estate.”

Barwa is one of the largest listed real estate companies in Qatar, and, with a growing portfolio of properties, it requires the most reliable solution to ensure total confidence in its ability to continue uninterrupted operations and growth.

The company selected Qtel as its strategic partner and telecommunications technology provider in addition to Qtel Data Centre’s support for its communications network because of Qtel’s strong track record in supporting key Qatari institutions.

Ghanem Bin Saad Al Saad, Chairman of Barwa and Managing Director, said: “With our increasingly diversified portfolio of real estate developments, investments and business support companies, and to guarantee smooth operations, it is crucial that we have a reliable telecommunications system platform that will not be impaired by unexpected events, which is why we have invested in this partnership with Qtel.”

With a controlled environment and end-to-end services, Qtel Data Centre supports high availability systems that replicate companies’ data and systems off-site, enabling continuous, uninterrupted access.

Qtel is investing heavily in the infrastructure necessary to deploy Smart City solutions throughout Qatar. With Smart City solutions, Qatar will be able to place information technology at the heart of new projects to enable a smart economy, smart mobility, a smart environment, and smart governance, and to decrease carbon emissions throughout Qatar.

This aspiration is supported by the increasing capacity of the Qtel Data Centre. A growing number of leading Qatari companies are hosting their global disaster recovery sites at the Qtel Data Centre, reassured by the facility’s proximity and the world-class standard technology and services it provides.

One of the strategic aims of the Qtel Data Centre is to be positioned as the leading data centre in the region, supported by world-class security and network measures. Qtel completed a major upgrade process in 2010 to enable the facility to offer more than 300 percent increased capacity.
