More Than Half Of The Region’s Respondents Say Employers Properly Train Them For Their Positions, Latest Bayt.Com Research Reveals

Published Mar 23, 2011

More than half (58.8%) of respondents across the Middle East and North Africa said they were properly trained for their positions, according to the latest online poll series conducted by the Middle East’s number one job site Bayt.com. The results of the ‘Importance and adoption of new joiner inductions plans in the ME Workplace’ poll however showed that only 31.1% of respondents said they were handed from their employers with a professionally written induction plan in the form of a checklist when they joined whereas 68.9% were not.

Additionally, the poll went on to show that only 45.5% of respondents were assigned a mentor or trainer to help them settle in their new job. However, 57.6% of participants said their company supported effective induction plans for new joiners, 25.4% said it did not and 17% said it depended on the position.

The respondents were then asked if an effective induction plan worked more for the benefit of employers or new joiners. Nearly three quarters (73.1%) said both, 12.6% indicated more the benefit of the employer and 14.3% said more to the benefit of new joiners. When asked if an effective induction plan would increase a new joiner’s sense of belonging in the long run, more than half (53%) of respondents said absolutely, 24.6% said yes to a certain extent and 3.8% said not really.

“As the number one job site in the Middle East, Bayt.com is dedicated to researching and analyzing data that can be useful to both employees and employers,” said Amer Zureikat, VP Sales, Bayt.com, “The results of our most recent poll show that improved job inductions help both the employees and their hiring companies. Indeed, it is common sense that a person well-briefed on his position and the company’s policies would be ideally prepared to give his or her best performance.”

Finally when respondents were asked what they thought was the most important constituent of an effective induction plan, 49% said getting more details about job functions and expectations, 29.4% indicated getting introduced to the corporate culture, mission and vision, 11.8% said getting introduced to the company’s policies and procedures, 5.9% said getting introduced to company amenities and 3.9% said getting introduced to the company hierarchy and management team.

Data for the ‘Importance and adoption of new joiner inductions plans in the ME Workplace’ poll series was collected online between February 16 and March 11, with a total of 4,068 respondents from across the Middle East.
