King Fahad Medical City Health Sciences Library Streamlines Costs With Canon Technology

The Health Sciences Library at King Fahad Medical City (KFMC), one of the largest independent medical facilities in the Middle East, has reported a substantial improvement in its workflow and service delivery following the deployment of Canon’s output management solution including the market leading imageRUNNER printing devices.
According to Dr. Sandra Al-Abdulmunem, Director of the KFMC Health Sciences Library, improving resources, facilities and services has been a priority from its outset. “With thousands of medical staff and employees accessing a collection of over 20,000 titles and other library services, we needed a system that will effectively manage our document management and printing requirements. Canon and El-Ajou came up with the perfect solution and it has allowed us to streamline our process and cut costs substantially.”
El Ajou, Canon Middle East’s distributor in Saudi Arabia, proposed and implemented an output management solution that enabled the library to effectively utilize its services and facilities with a centralized system that managed its entire document management and printing workflow processes. Prior to the implementation, much of the work for both library staff and users was manual and was composed of numerous, cumbersome steps; in addition, some facilities were not even available.
“Our proprietary output management solution provides the Health Sciences Library full control on document imaging, printing and workflow processes, and in the process help streamlines costs and ensure security of critical and important documents. We are delighted that it has delivered substantial savings for the library and has enabled it to enhance its services to its patrons,” said Sohail Sultan, Marketing Manager, El Ajou.
The solution entailed the installation of four units of Canon’s imageRUNNER 7105 integrated with Canon workflow software. El-Ajou provided customisation of the solution to match the library’s specific requirements. With the system in place, KFMC medical staff and employees can access various document management and printing services seamlessly with the existing control cards.
The mission of the Health Sciences Library is to contribute to excellence in patient care, health services, education, research, and decision making by accurately and efficiently providing comprehensive information resources, facilities and services to the medical staff and employees of King Fahad Medical City. “Because library users are able to access, share and print documents seamlessly through Canon’s output management solution, we’re fulfilling our mission in a much more efficient and effective manner,” Dr. Al-Abdulmunem stated.
