LG To Launch Online Application Store In UAE

LG Electronics, the third largest mobile phone manufacturer, has become the latest vendor to launch its own online application store to enhance the mobile experience of its handset users.
The application was launched last month and this facility will be available in the UAE this month.
"The service is designed to expand and improve the mobile experience for LG mobile device owners," Min Jang, Director, China and MEA, MC New Business PBL, LG Electronics, said.
"It aims to provide additional value to consumers by promising quality and providing a wide ranging selection of software in one location. The LG Application Store is fully optimised for the c handsets".
The LG Application Store was first introduced in Asia with the service being expanded to 24 countries.
During the launch, only two models GM730, KS20 will be supported and later more feature phones from LG will be able to access the LG Application Store in the future.
Apart from the South Korean company, BlackBerry, Apple, Nokia and Samsung are also offering this service.
Jang said LG doesn't intend to make profit out of the application store.
They expect to provide at least 80 per cent or more to the developers.
At this point about 1,400 applications are ready. These applications span 12 categories (such as games, entertainment, productivity, and finance) and are all tested and ready for to be downloaded.
More than 2,000 applications are expected to be ready by the end of the year.
He said LG expects to offer Arabic contents by 2010.
LG expects to launch GM730 model by the end of this month.
"To ensure that the applications available in LG’s Application Store is of the highest quality, both LG and content providers will ensure that all software undergo rigorous quality testing before they are made available for download to ensure 'bug ree' operation," he said.
