Injazat Accredited By UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s .aeCERT Initiative To Market & Register .ae Website Domains

Published Aug 4, 2009
Injazat Data Systems, the leading information technology and business process managed services provider in the UAE and the Middle East, recently signed a Registry Registrar Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (.aeCERT) initiative at Injazat’s headquarters.

Under the terms of the MoU, Injazat will be authorized to market and register .ae website domains in the UAE. Although internet use in the Middle East grew by 1,296 per cent from 2000 to 2008, Arabic content currently accounts for less than one per cent of all online content.

The UAE is one of the region’s most prolific internet users, with a penetration rate of 43 per cent.

The agreement between Injazat and .aeCERT aims to leverage this solid rate to encourage even optimal enabling environment for the UAE’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General, UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, said:
“The signing of this MoU is considered an important step in providing Injazat with high quality services that will protect its IT infrastructure via .aeCERT, whose objectives are to enhance the cyber security law and assist in the creation of new ones and enhance information security awareness across the UAE”.

“ae.CERT’s aims to build national expertise in information security, incident management and computer forensics; provide a central trusted point of contact for cyber security incident reporting in the UAE; establish a national center to disseminate information about threats, vulnerabilities, and cyber security incidents; foster the establishment of, and provide assistance to, sector-based Computer Security Incidents Response Teams (CSIRTs); coordinate with domestic and international CSIRTs and related organizations; and become an active member of recognized security organizations and forums,” added Al Ghanim.

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority was established via Decree No. 3 of 2003 Telecom Law as design certified Data centre in the region and the only one of its kind outside of North America.
