R&M Launches New Generation LC Duplex Fiber-Optic Systems

Published Aug 4, 2009
Swiss cabling specialist Reichle & De-Massari (R&M, www.rdm.com) has launched a new generation of its LC Duplex compact fiber optic connector system.

For the first time ever, this system has inte grated laser protection and a lock for the connector.

The new system is available in the Middle East markets allowing local businesses to utilize the LC risk free in publicly accessible applications.

Jean Pierre Labry, Managing Director of R&M Middle East & Africa, commented: “With these safety features, LC can now be used more easily in office buildings, residential buildings and highly com pact computing centers. Any danger of injury is therefore ruled out, allowing the LC to be utilized risk free in publicly accessible applications such as Fiber to the Desk and Fiber to the Home”.

A laser shutter provides integrated protection against laser beams, an international first for LC connectors.

A flat spring in the adapter opens when the connector is unplugged and covers the fiber stub. No laser beam can escape from the adapter.

R&M also offers a semi transparent dust cap that enables the connection to be visually checked safely.

In this new generation, an LC can also be fitted for the first time with the three stage R&M safety system that provides a better overview of the patch panel and helps to prevent mistakes, errors and tampering.

This system involves color coding with colored plastic frames, mechanical coding with additional clips, and plug out protection.

The latter consists of a lock that is inserted in the mechanical coding clip and that can only be opened with a special key.

The body of the adapter is a single piece and therefore sturdier than welded plastic parts.

The adapter is compatible with all R&M platforms.

The new LC Duplex connector system is suitable for grade C, D and M optical fibers, for singlemode fibers ground straight or at an angle and for multimode fibers.
