Official Program For The Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2011 Announced

Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology and for the fourth consecutive year. The Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2011 takes place in the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 16th to the 18th of May, with the presence of international and local experts and leaders in the Information and Communication Technology sector.

With the countdown to the opening of the forum , the organizing committee has announced the official program and activites that will take place. The official inauguration of the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2011 will be held in Isa Cultural Center on the 16th of May, where the winners of the eGovernment Excellence Awards will be announced and awarded. The forum will then commence with its workshops, conferences and Bahrain IT Expo from the 17th to the 18th of May at the Gulf Convention Center at the Gulf Hotel.

The event will also include announcing the winners for the Arab eContent Award and the Bahrain eContent Award 2011 during a special ceremony on the evening of the 17th of May, where His Highness the Deputy Prime Minister will officially inaugurate the Bahrain IT Expo and honor the winners with their awards.

A list of prominent speakers will participate at the Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2011 as well as a group of elite leaders and experts in the ICT field from the GCC and countries from all over the world. This impressive assembly is destined to exchange expertise, discuss innovations, discover new platforms and to outline future plans for the eGovernment.

Furthermore, many other topics related to the latest technologies employed in the domain of the public and the businesses sector including the (open data platform) will be explained from different aspects as well as the discussing the major challenges encountered to augment the transparency level and means to promote eParticipation amongst citizens and to provide public services.

Moreover, there will be a concentration on defining the new ICT innovations such us the (social media web tools 2.0) and its role in elaborating the public sector and its presence as a tool to activate marketing techniques including experiences encountering by other countries as well as its definition according to the UN.

Additionally, the forum will also include the European Union's experience in the domain of (Cloud Computing), the new system followed as platform to provide service to the government or private sectors.

The Official Speakers:

This year's official guest speakers include Mr. Alex Lightman, an Oxford University graduate and Chief Technology Officer of Fortune Nest Corporation, based Bahrain, China and California.

Mr. Lightman will be speaking about the innovation of 4G wirelesses, the digital revolution and IPv6 as a tool to change the performance of eGovernments.

On the topic of social media tools, Mr. Rodrigo Becerra Mizuno, the Managing Director of eGovernment in Worldwide Public Sector for Microsoft, will discuss the worldwide perspective on the concept of the open government and its transformation from the Gov2.0. Whereas, Mr. Ra'ed Bilbessi founder of Pinnacle Business & Marketing Company LLC will explain the role of social media as an effective marketing tool for business and companies. Another speaker is Mr. Raul Zambrano, a Senior Policy Advisor on ICT and Governance at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Democratic Governance will present a workshop about social media from the United Nation's perspective. Mrs. Alex Butler, who played a leading role in the transformation of the UK Government's approach to and use of digital technologies and the user experience of government's online services, will also give a presentation during the forum.

In addition, from Spain Mr. Pablo Rivero, Executive Director of IDEASpain will be talking about the eHealth strategy and the international prospective.

The enriched guest list includes many more speakers such as Mr. Andrew Stott, Retired Director for Transparency and Digital Engagement for the United Kingdom Government who will present paperwork about the best practices related to Open Data and the key challenges in greater government transparency. Dr. Julia Glidden, an online strategist and communications expert with extensive experience in the design and delivery of global eParticipation initiatives as well as the use of cloud computing as a platform to provide services to the EU.

In addition, Mr. Ramez Shehadi is a partner with Booz & Company and the leader of the firm's Information Technology practice in the Middle East who will discuss the major challenges encountered by eGovernment as well as a study and comparison of the international leading strategies. The list of speakers will also include Mr. Halil Aksu a consulting director for IT strategy development and the leadership role in eGovernment.

For the second year, Mr. Blaz Golob, the founding Director of the Centre for eGovernance Development for South East Europe will discuss the eGovernment agenda for the EU in line with the 2020 European Union vision. Mr. Geert Mareels , Flemish eGovernment Project Manager who will participate with a paperwork about the importance of cooperation in the Municipal field. Pro. Peter A. Bruck , the Chairman of the World Summit Award (www.wsis-award.org) and Honorary President of the International Center for New Media will explain how the mobile phone is considered as a delivery channel in eGovernment.

This year in addition to the list of speakers, Dr. Amjad Umar, the Director and Professor of eBusiness and Management programs at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, and an Adjunct Professor of Systems & Telecommunications at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a Senior Advisor to the United Nations. Dr. Umar will present a paper about the rapid techniques to accelerate the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through the use of ICT.

Bahrain IT Expo:

The organizing committee of the Bahrain IT Expo 2011, announced that it has taken all measures to ensure an immense participation for all exhibitors and visitors which includethe eGovernment Authority, a number of ministries and governmental entities from the Kingdom of Bahrain, various eGovernment Authorities for the GCC and different countries from the world as well as ICT companies and private sector entities.

The labour funding (Tamkeen) will support the participants at the Bahrain IT Expo by covering 80% of the registration and exhibition stand fees as an initiative to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through the Growth Assistance Scheme (GAS).

The diamond sponsors are (Microsoft, GBM-IBM, Shura Council, and Batelco). As for the platinum sponsors are Zain and the Gold sponsors, include Mars innovations and the forum's strategic partner is Tamkeen.

Bahrain International eGovernment Forum is considered as a major yearly event that assembles the highest leaders from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the countries in the region, Europe, East Asia and experts from the UN and different international organizations as well as responsible from the private sector.

The inauguration event this year is expecting the presence of around 800 guests from the Kingdom and abroad. The forum sessions that will be held for two days will regroup around 400 participants from the Kingdom of Bahrain and other participant countries. As for the Bahrain IT Expo is expecting around 50 exhibitors to showcasing the latest technologies, solutions, programs and devices for the visitors which include the public and businessmen to visit.
