Egypt Mobile Penetration Around 65 Pct

Mobile penetration in Egypt grew to around 64.65 percent by the end of June 2009, according to figures from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), reported by Al-Mal.

Total mobile subscribers in Egypt reached 48.3 million at the end of June, which shows an annual growth of 26 percent from last year’s 38 million subscribers.

The number is up 8.3 percent from 44.6 million at the end of March 2009.

Mobinil’s total subscriber base reached 22.76 million by June 2009, growing by 7.5 percent over March 2009. The company now has a 47.1 percent market share, down slightly from 47.5 in March.

Total subscribers to Vodafone came in at 20.23 million by June, a rise of 7.1 percent versus March. Vodafone now has a 41.9 percent market share, also down slightly from 42.4 percent in March.

Etisalat Egypt’s market share grew from 10.2 percent in March to 11 percent in June, with a total 5.24 million subscribers, an increase of 15.7 percent compared to March.
