Mahindra Satyam Eyeing To Play Major Role In Qatar’s IT Transformation

Published May 24, 2011

Mahindra Satyam, the brand name of Satyam Computer Services Ltd., a leading global consulting and IT services provider, has revealed its plans to play a major role in Qatar’s IT transformation, and meet the growing demands of the country’s Government, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Telecommunicaitons and BFSI segments. A recent IDC report has identified these segments as large IT spenders, expanding the Qatar ICT market at a double digit CAGR to reach a value of USD 3.7 billion by 2013. The high IT spends posted by these industry verticals reflect the country’s move to diversify and increase the private sector’s role and participation in the move towards development. In line with this, Mahindra Satyam is participating at QITCOM 2011, the Middle East region’s biggest ICT event showcasing Qatar’s booming technology industry, will run at the Doha Exhibition Centre.

Mahindra Satyam is completely aligned with the Qatar government’s ICT vision, placing key focus on the move towards better e-Governance and analytics for key decision makers. The show of support is seen in the company’s move to bring the best of its global practices and institutionalize it into Qatar’s various government departments, agencies and entities. During their participation at QITCOM 2011, Mahindra Satyam will be highlighting key services that will prove to be essential components in various industry verticals. These services would include business intelligence & dashboard for government and corporate leaders; financial forecasting and budgeting for CFOs; specialized IT services for large infrastructure and construction firms; sports technology, conferencing & event management; specialized IT services for healthcare; and IT outsourcing services for applications and IT infrastructure.

“The decision to hold the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has driven in an influx of major development projects, many of which carry ICT components that can help attract more IT spending to varying degrees,” said Bobby Gupta, Vice President and Head for Middle East & North Africa, Mahindra Satyam. “Key sectors like government institutions, public enterprises, healthcare, education and large infrastructure companies are primarily responsible for driving in significant growth in ICT spending. Our participation at this year’s edition of QITCOM will not only allow us to highlight our service offerings but will also allow us to show our impeccable service record with government bodies and companies in Qatar and the Middle East. We are also looking to create stronger presence in strategic sectors like government, large infrastructure and construction, healthcare & life science, education and BFSI.”

Qatar’s economic boom has been accompanied with the advent of strategic ICT trends like Cloud Computing, Virtualization and Mobile Devices. A few organizations like the mega-development project authorities (Energy City), sports authorities, and educational centers have already deployed internal private clouds that provide shared services to their members. Virtualization has been picked up by several organizations across various sectors and has reported substantial progress. Mobile devices and its related services have also emerged with telecommunications services making up the bulk of overall ICT spending with a 65 per cent share. Mahindra Satyam has received wide response for its ‘ERP Shared Support Services’, and the company is now looking into a stronger foothold in Business Intelligence, Cloud Computing, IT engineering and design for industries such as infrastructure, oil & gas, and specialized sectors like IT for sport events. The company was the sole supplier for the IT systems used during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“Mahindra Satyam’s continued confidence in Qatar’s potential for growth is demonstrated in our move to develop key strategies that can address the challenges and create more opportunities for the country’s ICT sector. We are committed to ensuring the deployment of an advanced and secure infrastructure, boost digital literacy and enable knowledge transfer and create an ecosystem to incubate an innovative and vibrant ICT segment. Mahindra Satyam affirms its support towards the government's quest to create a roadmap of ICT opportunities, thereby enabling the country's ICT sector to act as a catalyst for developing a more knowledge-based economy,” concluded Gupta.

To date, Mahindra Satyam has installed and implemented key IT related projects among leading Qatar based companies from Government, Sports Institutions, Educational Centers and BFSI. The company was also recently awarded million Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) contract from largest academic institution of Qatar. The strategic partnership looks towards creating a hub of IT excellence that will provide best of class learning capabilities that reaches out not only within the confines of Qatar but also to other Gulf countries.
