Nawras Shares Network Expertise At 5th Annual Mobile Network Optimisation Summit In Dubai

Published Jun 8, 2011

Saif Al Shukri from Nawras 2G Radio Network Optimization, recently announced news of another Nawras network first. During an exciting presentation given at the Annual Mobile Network Optimisation Summit in Dubai, Al Shukri unveiled a new feature called VAMOS which is designed to enable customers to benefit from greater capacity delivered over an existing network without the need for operators to build additional infrastructure.

Nawras is the first operator in the world to implement Ericsson’s VAMOS (Voice services over Adaptive Multi user channels on One Slot) feature and test it. VAMOS is a new way to expand the capacity of an EDGE network in order to provide greater service for more customers without a corresponding need to increase hardware.

Nawras engineers are working with a team from Ericsson to study and record the performance of this innovation. Results are very promising and Nawras was able to outline the success achieved to date.

“We were chosen to take the lead to test and study the efficiency and advantages of this network optimisation feature due to the strength and readiness of the Nawras network,” Al Shukri explained during his presentation. “This new system has the potential to allow us to use our existing base stations to cover a greater number of customers with better services. This should lead to a more cost effective use of our infrastructure and gives us the opportunity to delight more customers with our pleasingly different service.”

During the conference, Nawras joined other operators from the region including Batelco, du, Etisalat and Zain. Vendors present at the event included Nokia-Siemens Network, Pitney Bowes Ltd and Frost & Sullivan. Study cases were presented, discussed and debated by the delegates, providing an opportunity for Nawras to benchmark and benefit from the most effective strategies in the market.

Representing Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, Al Shukri was proud to be the only Omani in the impressive speaker line up at this year’s Mobile Optimisation Summit. Since joining Nawras in 2006, Al-Shukri’s career has taken him from Senior Radio Optimizer to his current position of Section Head. He has been involved in a number of cutting edge projects to date and will be continuing to oversee the monitoring and assessment of results during the VAMOS testing stage.

Nawras, a member of the Qtel Group, is constantly looking for new and better ways of doing things to further improve customer experience while delivering pleasing results for shareholders.
