Canon Middle East Introduces ImageFORMULA CR-50 For High Performance Desktop Cheque Scanning

Published Jun 22, 2011

- Canon’s imageFORMULA CR-50 has advanced image processing technology for reliability and image accuracy.

- Tiny footprint makes the CR-50 ideal for cashier counters or desktops where space is limited.

- The efficient CR-50 employs Magnetic Ink Character Recognition reading supported by Optical Character Recognition, for high precision data capture that minimise errors.

Canon Middle East, world-leader in imaging solutions, has announced the launch of its latest cheque scanner, the Canon imageFORMULA CR-50. The compact and cost effective device has been designed to meet the need for reliable desktop scanning of cheques, vouchers and coupons, with speeds up to 50 cheques per minute.

To meet customers’ evolved scanning requirements, the imageFORMULA CR-50 replaces the successful imageFORMULA CR-55, with new software upgrades and features. It is ideal for businesses that need to efficiently scan and read cheque data at branch offices or at a company’s central or administrative location. The Canon imageFORMULA CR-50 enables a more streamlined and cost efficient cheque payment process.

To ensure high precision data capture, the imageFORMULA CR-50 uses Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) supported by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to improve read accuracy and save employee time.

The imageFORMULA CR-50 also incorporates a range of powerful image processing features for impressive quality and sharper image capture, such as Fine Text Filtering that reduces unnecessary ‘noise’ on images with patterned backgrounds. A built in imprinter, with its useful low ink level warning, can be activated to print endorsement information onto cheques to help meet audit trail requirements. Alternatively a print “add-on” feature can be used to print recurring or cheque relevant data onto scanned images.

Nilesh Pathak, Product Manager, Canon Middle East says, “Cheques still remain an important method of payment in many markets. For example, some organisations are changing to a decentralised process by scanning and capturing customer cheque information at branch office locations, so are looking for faster and more cost effective payment processing solutions. The new ultra compact CR-50 cheque scanner is perfect for these environments where individuals need to accurately scan cheques from small cashier counters or desktops at the highest quality.”

For smooth operation, Canon’s paper handling technology ensures that all cheques are processed without interruption. The CR-50 includes infrared double feed detection and a paper thickness adjustment so that users can ensure reliable cheque processing and minimising the risk of paper jams.

For sectors that operate with specialist programmes, such as banking or finance, a Software Developers Kit (SDK) is available with the imageFORMULA CR-50 to enable developers to seamlessly integrate any 3rd party application software into existing workflows.
