R&M Unveils A Breakthrough In Copper Cabling
Published Aug 16, 2009

The Swiss cabling specialist, Reichle & De-Massari (R&M, www.rdm.com) has unveiled a breakthrough in copper cabling, a new RJ45 connection module which meets the Cat. 6A standard as specified by ISO/IEC. R&M will exhibit this innovation at Booth B60 in Hall 1.1 at the Ineltec 2009, which will be held from 1-4 September 2009 in Basel, Switzerland.
Jean Pierre Labry, Managing Director of R&M Middle East & Africa, commented by saying: “Cat. 6A is the key to new maximum performance and greater operating reliability in data networks. Our customers in the region ranging from telecommunication providers to operators of data centers and corporate networks can use the new Cat. 6A components to obtain substantially more bandwidth and transmission quality in the long term without abandoning the compact, reasonably priced RJ45-style connector to which they are accustomed”.
The upcoming Cat. 6A module from R&M incorporates several innovations at once. For instance, the R&M Development Lab has found a new way to shield the individual copper twisted pairs in the body of the module.
Electromagnetic interference affecting the highly sensitive signals, known as crosstalk between the wires, is avoided to an unprecedented extent.
R&M calls this feature the deciding factor for enabling high performance data trans mission in the future with the all purpose RJ45 style module, even beyond 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
A number of further innovations from R&M facilitate termination. R&M says it will demonstrate at the Ineltec that no tool is required even at this demanding level to terminate the twisted pairs error free and with absolute precision.
For reasons of quality and safety, R&M advocates installing data networks based on the new ISO/IEC 11801 standard. This standard specifies the most rigorous physical requirements for the channel (Class EA) and for the components (Cat. 6A).
R&M recommends that anyone wishing to achieve uniform high performance capability over the entire length of cabling plus top protection for high frequency signal transmission at a reasonable cost should opt for this approach and remember the subscript A when choosing products.
A Class EA/Cat. 6A network designed according to ISO/IEC will also have the necessary reserve capacity for future applications.
On this same subject, R&M reminds its customers of the different approaches taken in the pertinent standards recently introduced or about to be introduced in the coming months.
R&M experts have been involved all along in the standardization proceedings of ISO/IEC and have released several white papers explaining the technical issues for users in an under standable way.
