For The First Time In Egypt:The Launch Of MasterCard® Bill Pay Services In Cooperation With Fawry

Published Jul 20, 2011

For the first time in Egypt, MasterCard Worldwide has teamed up with Fawry, the nationwide Electronic Bill Payment and Presentment (EBPP) network, to launch MasterCard Bill Pay services to enable MasterCard cardholders to use their cards for bill payments and mobile top-up via Fawry’s retail network. MasterCard cardholders can now settle their Internet, mobile and fixed line bills and also utilize the top-up payment services through Fawry-MasterCard enabled retail locations across Egypt.

“Recognizing the need to continue providing our customers with innovative payment options, we worked closely with MasterCard to offer cardholders a new and convenient method for bill payments,” said Ashraf Sabry, CEO, Fawry. “The launch of MasterCard Bill Pay services on the Fawry network allows us to offer consumers increased flexibility and trust in the service.”

This is the first time the service has been introduced in Egypt and MasterCard cardholders will be the first to enjoy this fast, easy, secure and convenient bill payment channel. MasterCard and Fawry opted to launch this service in Egypt as a key market in the Middle East and Africa regions.

“MasterCard is dedicated to bringing innovative payment solutions to the Egyptian market where electronic payments are constantly growing. We recognized the opportunity to collaborate with Fawry to introduce MasterCard Bill Pay service in Egypt. We therefore addressed the needs of Egyptian consumers, who are always on the move, and require more flexible and secure payment options to make their daily payments,” said Magdy Hassan, vice president and country manager, Egypt, MasterCard Worldwide. “Acceptance is a critical pillar of the MasterCard payment model and we are committed to expanding points of acceptance for the convenience of local MasterCard cardholders through multiple channels.”

The Fawry network comprises 10,000 payment service points available nationwide at multiple channels. These channels include electronic and physical outlets. The launch of MasterCard Bill Pay service is starting at Fawry enabled retail outlets such as grocery stores and pharmacies using point of sale terminals offering this application. Through these service points, consumers can make a range of payments including mobile phone top-up, telecom bills, internet bills, e-commerce payments as well as airline ticket payments. The collaboration between Fawry and MasterCard provides Egyptian consumers with even more choices of how and where to pay for their bills.

“We are delighted with our collaboration with MasterCard, and we look forward to seeing cardholders take advantage of MasterCard Bill Pay services on the Fawry network. We are committed to offering greater choices through flexible payment options to Fawry customers. To achieve this, we collaborate with parties who share our belief in the significant potential of electronic payment services and who are taking the lead in developing this industry in Egypt.” Sabry added.
