Yahoo! Maktoob’s Ramadan Site Goes Mobile With New Application

Published Aug 14, 2011

Building on Yahoo! Maktoob’s dedicated Ramadan site, the premier digital media company has launched its first Ramadan application for iPhone, iPad, iPod and Nokia Ovi users. Designed locally by the Yahoo! Maktoob team out of Amman, Jordan, the application takes the company’s ultimate Ramadan web-experience mobile, available for free global download on iTunes App Store and Ovi Store.

The compelling and all-encompassing app for the Holy Month enables access to a host of relevant content leveraging Yahoo! Maktoob’s dedicated Ramadan site.

Designed for mobile gadgets aficionados, it delivers feeds from the Yahoo! Maktoob Ramadan site across five main focus areas: Family, Health, Hadith, Religion, and Helwa, the region’s leading women’s property.

Users from 189 countries can also access prayer and imsakieh through an animated moon feature that reflects the status of the moon during each stage of the Holy Month. The feature has the ability to accurately show the moon’s progress and precise timings based on mathematical equations that take into consideration the longitude and latitude of each individual country.

For people looking to share their Ramadan experience, the application comes with a built-in Twitter module, designed to enable individuals to share Yahoo! Maktoob content and comment via social media networks.

“Mobile is an essential part of our product strategy, and in a market with incredible penetration, it’s only natural that we enable our media properties to go mobile. We’re very excited to be taking our rich Ramadan offering and giving it a fantastic mobile user experience,” said Andy Abbar, Head of Global and Regional Product Management, Yahoo! Middle East.

Launched to celebrate the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Yahoo! Maktoob dedicated site(maktoob.ramadan.yahoo.com) brings together premium content relevant to Ramadan, pulled from multiple leading Yahoo! Maktoob properties including News, Helwa, OMG!, Video on Demand, Forums and Search. The site also provides prayer and imsakieh times based on country and city.

To download immediately, search for "Yahoo! Maktoob" in the iTunes App Store to download the iPhone, iPad, or iPod application, and in the Ovi Store for the Nokia app.

Go to mobile.yahoo.com to discover more industry-leading apps, including Yahoo! Messenger, MarketDash, Flickr, Sportacular and dozens more. With more than 100 mobile partnerships, you can find your favorite Yahoo! experiences on nearly every mobile device and platform.
