Alexandria City Centre Awards The Bright Young Scientists Of The Future; Winners Of The Techno Innovation Competition 2011 Announced

Alexandria City Centre announced the bright young winners of the Techno Innovation Competition – or TechnoKids, at a ceremony recently hosted at the mall. An initiative with TechnoKids Egypt, this is the second year that Alexandria City Centre has hosted this community event, which ran throughout the summer months starting with a series of educational workshops. TechnoKids is aimed at children between 9 and 17, and provides an informative and educational platform for them to learn about various scientific topics and current issues such as the environment, engineering, medicine, mathematics and computer science from leading industry experts.
The Techno Innovation Competition 2011 encouraged children to put their knowledge to practice, giving them an opportunity to develop their own unique scientific project based on their workshop experiences. In total there were over 35 entries, submitted by 48 techno savvy kids vying for the chance to be crowned the ‘TechnoKids’ winning team with the chance to compete internationally at the International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in the United States. Entries were reviewed by a panel of seven judges, all university professors and headed by the ISEF Fair Director Mina Antoin.
The winners of ‘Techno Innovation Competition 2011’ were defined across two age groups: ‘Over 12’ and ‘Under 12’. First, Second and Third place winners were each awarded with a special Techno Kids medal and a certificate of achievement from Alexandria City Centre, plus gift vouchers to splurge at any store in the mall.
The First Place winner for the Techno Kids ‘Over 12’ category was 1st winner was Noha Mahmoud Mansy for the project titled: ‘I have the right to be left’ and explored the difficulties faced by left-handed people, with unique methods to overcome these challenges.
The First Place winners for the Techno Kids ‘Under 12’ category were Yasmine Al Shaarawy and Abd El-Rahman Al-Kabbany for the project titled: ‘How to treat your teeth’ with a proposal on how to manufacture a toothbrush containing chlorophyll for maximum protection.
“The quality of work received this year was extraordinary,” said Hisham Jaheen, Acting Country Manager for Alexandria City Centre. “We’re proud to support the Techno Kids for the second year in a row.
It not only encourages our children to develop analytical skills – but it opens up a world of opportunity as they discover new interests, technologies and fields of study that will impact our future. We’d like to thank TechnoKids and the ISEF for organising this event, all the bright young stars who participated. Without doubt, there are some future leaders amongst our very own community.”
"The Techno Innovation Competition aims at developing young student’s creativity and train them on how to follow the right scientific research methods," said Dr. Ahmed Saleh, Assistant Professor of the Agriculture Research Centre. “The winners from this event will have the opportunity to participate in the International ISEF competition, the world’s largest science fair held in the United States. As a judge, I have no doubts that the quality and calibre of Egypt’s bright young students will make an equally positive impression.”
