Miercom Reports 3Com’s H3C Enterprise Switches Are Industry’s Most Energy Efficient, Using Up To 40% Less Energy Than Competing Products

Published Aug 25, 2009
3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that Miercom, a leading provider of independent test services, evaluated the company’s H3C® S7506E and H3C S5500-EI enterprise networking switches and determined they lead the industry in energy efficiency, using up to 40 percent less energy than competing products.

Miercom evaluated “the overall environmental impact and business enabling green benefits” the products provide to customers and rated them “Miercom Green Certified”.

Miercom, as part of its Certified Green Test Program, evaluated the power consumption and efficiency of the switches.

Miercom reports the H3C 5500-EI stackable switch with 24 and 48 port models are up to 40 percent more energy efficient in terms of watts of energy used per gigabits per second of performance.

The H3C S7506E modular, multilayer 10 Gigabit and gigabit switch is up to 24 percent more energy efficient than comparable products.

3Com’s entire H3C enterprise networking portfolio is designed to deliver the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership (TCO).

Miercom also reports that organizations can realize further cost savings by deploying the new H3C Intelligent Management Center (IMC) to manage their network.

IMC is an end to end enterprise class management solution that provides unique single pane management of the entire heterogeneous enterprise network infrastructure and integrates with existing systems to deliver heightened efficiency and value.

IMC’s centralized remote administration capability can help reduce network administration costs.

“Our commitment to developing products with low “TCO by design” sets our H3C portfolio apart from the competition,” said Mahmoud El-Ali, General Manager, 3Com Middle East & North Africa. Miercom’s test results confirm that the H3C S7505E and S5500-EI are the right choices for enterprises that want outstanding price/performance and energy efficiency from their network infrastructure investment, particularly in today’s economy”.

The newest H3C products feature the latest 90nm silicon technology, which increases performance without increasing power usage.

According to Miercom, “The silicon technology delivers a 35% increase in processor speed, while reducing active power needs by 60%”.

“Using merchant silicon instead of proprietary ASICs, the H3C portfolio features the most modern and low power chipsets available. By developing products that use far less power than the industry average, 3Com enables enterprises to reduce capital expenditures and spend less money on energy to run their networks. This embodies 3Com’s commitment to ‘no compromise’ networks, where enterprises don’t have to compromise performance and features in order to save money,” said El-Ali.

According to Miercom, the annual operating cost of the H3C S7506E is 24 percent lower than the industry average.

The annual operating cost of the H3C S5500-EI is 17 percent below the industry average, for both the 24 and 48 port models.

All H3C and 3Com products comply with international restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical components.

3Com also enforces guidelines for disposing and recycling of its products. These commitments, along with the energy efficiency of its products, establish 3Com as a leader in protecting the environment.
