Egypt's Mobinil To Focus On Broadband Services

Published Dec 18, 2011

Yves Gauthier, chief executive of Egypt's MobiNil has said the telecoms firm has suffered from tough competition in the local mobile phone market, but hopes to rebuild revenues and profitability with a focus on broadband and other higher-value services. MobiNil aims to become Egypt's "main broadband operator," rather than chasing market share at the lower end of the voice market, where the company has lost its role as market leader, he said. "For me the pre-paid market share is not a goal. You go in the street, you give SIM cards and you get market share," Gauthier told the news service. "Gaining market share to create value, this is what we will focus on," he added.
