LG Introduces Innovative HOM-BOT 2.0 Providing Smart, User-Free Cleaning

Published Dec 21, 2011
LG Electronics (LG) has introduced HOM-BOT 2.0, its acclaimed robotic vacuum cleaner in the UAE. The agile little vacuum delivers outstanding cleaning power and a big edge in convenience with its high-tech capabilities. The HOM-BOT 2.0 combines dual cameras (upper and lower) with ultrasonic and infrared sensors to navigate even the corners of rooms, ensuring thorough cleaning with minimal collisions throughout the home.

“LG’s research into customer preferences revealed that expectations are very high when it comes to robotic vacuum cleaners. But LG’s HOM-BOT 2.0 proves that these expec-tations can be met,” said Mr. H.S. Paik, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE. “The HOM-BOT 2.0 offers smart and reliable vacuuming, making life at home more relaxed and productive.”

The HOM-BOT 2.0’s Dual Eye Camera Sensor system is the first and only one of its kind in the vacuum cleaner business. The camera mapping system uses one lens on top of the body and a second lens on the bottom, with software combining the data from both lenses to obtain a much wider range of vision.

The upper camera is also tasked with simultaneously mapping and storing house floor plans, while the lower camera incorporates an Optical Flow Sensor to capture surface images at high speed and report obstacles back to the HOM-BOT 2.0’s decision-making software. The two cameras combined allow the smart vacuum cleaner to calculate distance information and plot courses that maximize cleaning efficiency while saving customers’ time.

Course selection is further assisted through the HOM-BOT 2.0’s ultrasonic and infrared sensors, which identify obstacles in real time, helping the cleaner avoid the bump-and-retreat action that plagues other robotic systems. In addition, the accelerometer and gyro sensors support stable movements even on slightly tilted surfaces. The myriad of sen-sors and data interpretation software result in big improvements over previous robotic vacuum cleaners, particularly in terms of avoiding possible pitfalls around the home.

On top of these cutting-edge features, HOM-BOT 2.0’s Smart Battery System includes a Li-Polymer battery that has a longer life cycle than conventional batteries. This helps customers save on battery replacement costs, while the battery’s low self-discharge quality preserves energy for longer. When the robotic vacuum cleaner runs low on battery power, it automatically hovers to the charger, docks itself with the station, re-charges, and finishes the rest of the vacuuming. HOM-BOT 2.0’s advanced and intelli-gent battery system lets the cleaner run almost independently, so customers only need to pay the minimum of attention.

The HOM-BOT 2.0 comes in an understated, modern design, whose super-slim shape helps it get to harder-to-reach places such as underneath beds and sofas. Noise levels have been reduced to just 60dB (IEC), meaning customers can watch TV, read books or get some work done while the HOM-BOT 2.0 takes care of the cleaning. Auto docking and recharging functions add to the overall convenience.

The HOM-BOT 2.0 recently received a 2011 reddot Design Award for its superior design and innovative features.
