RIM Forced to Rename OS Software

After announcing that Research In Motion would be branding its new BlackBerry operating system BBX, the company has been forced to change the name of its OS to BB10, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.
The trademark BBX already belongs to software company Basis International and according to a statement, a federal court has served RIM with a temporary restraining order pending further investigation.
“The United States Federal Court in Albuquerque today granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Research in Motion (RIM), immediately barring RIM from using BASIS International Ltd.’s incontestable federally registered BBX trademark at RIM’s Asian DevCon on December 7-8 in Singapore,” Basis said in a statement.
While the court documents prevent RIM from using the BBX name at the Asian DevCon conference, RIM said that they have already decided on a different name.
“RIM doesn’t typically comment on pending litigation, however RIM has already unveiled a new brand name for its next generation mobile platform. As announced at DevCon Asia, RIM plans to use the ‘BlackBerry 10′ brand name for its next generation mobile platform,” RIM said in a statement.
According to The Guardian, “Basis said RIM had refused requests to stop using the moniker at the DevCon conference, which resulted in the company filing for the temporary restraining order.”
