New Facebook Phishing Attack Seals Financial Information

Published Jan 16, 2012

A new Facebook phishing attempt that steals a user's Facebook account, then attempts to learn financial information as well has been discovered by Kaspersky Lab. The attack locks out the original user, changing the profile picture to the Facebook logo and the name to "Facebook Security" but containing special ASCII characters replacing letters such as "a" "k" "S" and "t," David Jacoby, an expert for Kapsperksy, wrote in a blog post. The attack begins as a message asking users to click a link which redirects them to a web site that asks for financial information. The page looks much like a Facebook page, but asks for the user's first and last name, password, birthday, and email address and password.
