NTRA To Settle Mobinil’s Spectrum Request

Published Aug 30, 2009
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) said it is finalizing the procedures pertaining to granting the Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (Mobinil) 5 megahertz of the 3G spectrum, in return for LE 1.1 billion, reported Al- Masry Al-Youm.

Khaled Ellaicy, Mobinil's CFO, said that the NTRA has not informed Mobinil of the timing set for receiving the required spectrum, as yet.

In its daily market report, Beltone Financial said, Mobinil was supposed to pay LE 750 million, in January 2009, upon receiving 2.53 megahertz on the 1800 band of the 3G spectrum. However, because Mobinil has not received the spectrum, it has not made the payment, as yet.

“Mobinil is expected to pay another LE 750 million in January 2010 upon receiving the remainder of the 3G spectrum”.
