The Future Classroom Lab, fully equipped with latest technology (tablet, netbook and interactive projectors), reconfigurable, teaching and learning space developed by European Schoolnet in cooperation with Acer. Based in Brussels, it’s supporting 30 ministries and industry partners to help visualize how conventional classrooms can be easily reorganized to support changing styles of teaching and learning.
Jan De Craemer, Vice Chair of European Schoolnet Steering Committee and Assistant to the Director at the Flemish Ministry of Education & Training expresses his enthusiasm for the project “We are delighted to have such a fantastic tool on our doorstep as it will benefit Flemish schools and teachers through workshops and other training events. Most important, it will also help us rethink our teaching and learning processes as a result of developing a better understanding of what innovative practice consists of and then implement best practices on a large scale for the benefit of teachers and pupils”.
The Future Classroom Lab is designed as a “Living Lab’ for how ICT can be implemented in schools. Here, policy makers, ICT suppliers, teachers and educational researchers can get together and rethink how new technologies can support the educational reform process at both national and European level. And more, to develop new economic models to teach and learn activities designed for the future classroom can be mainstreamed and taken to scale.
“Technology is a precious resource in education: the use of it can complete and improve the methodologies applied. Acer wants to play an active role in developing and cultivating the school of the future, providing innovative and affordable solutions to the global education community”, adds Federico Carozzi, Acer EMEA Educational Business Manager.
The Future Classroom Lab’s opening day brought future teaching and learning with innovative use of ITC discussion, bringing the attention and the interest of a total of hundred national and European level policy-makers and educational technology providers. Following this launch event, the Future Classroom Lab is developing a program of workshops, seminars and courses that will be available later in 2012. Initially, events in the Future Classroom Lab will be for policy makers and teachers already involved in European Schoolnet projects and Commission initiatives such as eTwinning, or will be arranged by European Schoolnet supporting industry partners. These events will be by invitation only.
