Etisalat Creates Millionaires , A Houseboy And A Driver Win AED 1 Million Each Through Etisalat’s ‘24 Millionaires’ Ramadan Promotion

Published Sep 1, 2009
Ramadan fortune smiled at a houseboy and a driver as they turned into overnight millionaires through the Etisalat 24 Millionaires Ramadan promotion.

The two winners, Madan Lakshmanan Kherade, an Indian, working as a Houseboy at the Fujairah Palace, and Shoukat Parvez, a Pakistani driver working in Sharjah, won AED 1 million each through the ongoing Ramadan Recharge promotion from Etisalat.

Etisalat had announced the ‘24 Millionaires’ mega promotion for its customers in the holy month of Ramadan.

Two lucky customers, recharging their Wasel accounts during the promotion, are selected every week to win AED 2 Million, through an electronic raffle draw.

The offer, continuing till 14th November 2009, provides an incredible opportunity to 24 lucky customers to win AED 24 million.

Winners will be announced every Monday on Sama Dubai TV in Layali Ramadan Program.

Madan, a 32 year old Indian from Ratnagiri, a small town in Maharashtra, India, couldn’t believe his luck when he received the SMS and a call from Etisalat.

“I still don’t believe my good luck,” he exclaimed. This is indeed a holy month with Ramadan and Ganesh Chaturthi (a local Indian religious festival) being celebrated together, and with God’s grace and my parents blessings I have suddenly become rich. This seems unbelievable. The first thing I will do after getting the money is to donate some of it in a local temple and a mosque to thank God who has been so kind to me”.

Madan is married and has been working as a houseboy in Fujairah for the past 9 years. His father is a farmer and his wife stays with his parents in their small village. Madan has two brothers who are also working away from their families to make ends meet.

“I have not yet shared this news with my family back home. My parents and my family will be very happy once they hear about this. This is really a big amount in India and now I can reunite with my family so that all of us can stay together. As for now, I haven’t thought of how I would like to use this money, but I will think of doing some small business with my family in India. I will also use this money to educate my elder brother’s children and get my younger brother married”.

Madan had recharged his Etisalat Wasel card for AED 100.

“I normally spend AED 100-200 every month to speak with my family. This month due to the celebrations, I spent a bit more and got lucky!” he added.

“I would like to thank Etisalat for changing my life. When I went to their office, I was treated extremely well with so many senior people congratulating me. Etisalat staff is very nice and they took a lot of time to explain to me the process in detail”.

Shoukat Parvez, the other winner, was also quite taken aback on receiving the call from Etisalat.

“I thought it’s one of those fraud calls. My employer told me to ignore these calls. Etisalat called me so many times to convince me that I have indeed won 1 million! When I told them that I don’t even have a bank account, Etisalat told me they will help me open an account where the money can be transferred. I still don’t believe my luck! I can only thank Etisalat for being a messenger from God to bring me this fortune”.

The electronic draw was conducted in the presence of a senior member from Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, to ensure fairness and transparency in the process.

Mohammed Essa Al Refai, Deputy Assistant Director General, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry explained, "Etisalat used an electronic system for the raffle to identify the winners. The process is credible, fair and transparent in all respects. Since the draw is electronic, there is absolutely no human interference in selecting the winners".

Customers can participate in the ongoing promotion by recharging their Wasel accounts.

Customers can use Prepaid Calling Card, eVoucher, Etisalat website, Emirates Post, Banks, Mobile Payment, Public Payment Machine, or any other means of payment, for recharging their Wasel cards.

Besides the chance to become millionaires, customers will also benefit from additional free credit on each Wasel recharge that can be used for all calls and SMS (local & international).

Customers can also gain additional chances to participate in the weekly draw, depending on the recharge amount.

A higher recharge denomination will ensure more entries in the weekly draw as follows:

• Recharging by AED 25 till 49, gets 1 chance in the draw

• Recharging by AED 50 till 99, gets 3 chances in the draw

• Recharging by AED 100 till 199, gets 6 chances in the draw

• Recharging by AED 200 till 499, gets 12 chances in the draw

• Recharging by AED 500 and above , gets 20 chances in the draw
