In order to enhance the overall performance of the Corporation, Etisalat today announced a comprehensive plan to adopt a new business model which is based on outsourcing its business support services. Etisalat is outsourcing its business support services to the most specialised vendors who have global expertise to carry out these tasks effectively.
The Corporation will focus on its core business in order to achieve several key objectives; namely enhance the quality of customer care and increasing productivity, promoting competitiveness and enhancing its financial performance by reducing operating costs.
The ICT sector regionally and around the world is a key industry that is adopting this method, primarily due to the ongoing development witnessed in the sector and the need for continuous investment in developing infrastructure to improve the overall performance of its networks and customer services.
Partnering with the private sector through outsourcing presents a number of advantages, namely the acquisition of international and specialised expertise and acquiring knowledge from rapidly advancing technological developments, improved time to market, enhancement of service quality and a re-energized customer experience. This also enhances private sector development by creating new job opportunities, particularly within the SME sector, a key pillar of sustainable development in any economy.
Nasser bin Obood, Acting CEO for Etisalat revealed the next phase of the business model, and pointed out that it would be implemented in the coming period and expected to be completed in two years. During this time, Etisalat will sign agreements with several international and local specialised partners, the leading global providers of telecommunications equipment and services, to conduct regular maintenance on its telecommunications networks.
“With a strong commitment to our human resources, Etisalat has prepared a plan to shift some of its staff members to work in new centres within the Corporation, or transfer them into private companies who have been selected to provide specialised services for Etisalat. Those who are transferred will carry out their duties together with the employees of the private sector to ensure continuity of work, while gaining experience from a world-renowned international vendor,” said Bin Obood.
“As part of this plan, Etisalat will not let go of its UAE National employees, rather the Corporation will provide them work under the supervision of international specialised companies, together with all the privileges guaranteed to them by Etisalat. This presents a valuable opportunity for our local employees who can work and develop their competencies within a global company.
In concluding, Bin Obood said: “Implementing this strategy will equip Etisalat with the time, effort and capability (including financial capability) to achieve its main objective of providing the latest services with the highest standards of quality and performance for its customers. This is particularly important at a time when a competitive market has enabled the degradation of prices in the region, and many telcos around the world, particularly in emerging markets, are facing a downward spiral of reduced revenues.”
