UAE TRA Says Communications Is Key to Robust Homeland Security Strategy

Published Mar 11, 2012

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the government agency responsible for managing all aspects of the UAE’s telecommunications and IT industries, emphasizes the importance of safe and reliable communication channels in deploying and maintaining effective homeland security measures. The TRA explains that the proper communications strategies, frameworks and technologies should be adopted by both private and government agencies to safeguard national infrastructures and economically-significant intellectual property and enhance deterrence.

As part of its efforts to share its expertise and learn from other agencies and professionals worldwide, the TRA will be organizing the third day of the ISNR Abu Dhabi 2012 Conference. As a Platinum Sponsor of the 5th International Security and National Resilience (ISNR) Exhibition and Conference which will be held in ADNEC, Abu Dhabi, from the 19th to the 21st of March 2012, TRA will dedicate the last day of the conference on cyber security, with a major focus on “Countermeasures in Preventing Cyber Wars through Collaboration”. The different sessions will cover issues of “Sustainable and Secure Cyberspace”, “Cognitive Early Warning Predictive System”, “Infrastructure and Resilience Issues” and “Convergence of Physical and Cyber Security Vulnerabilities, Risks, and Solutions”.

The conference will be chaired by several prominent personalities including Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Shafar, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Interior, Lord John Reid, Former Secretary of State for Defense and Founder and Chair of the University College of London’s Institute for Security & Resilience Studies, Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services, and Brigadier Jassim Mohammad Al Marzouqi, Deputy Director of Human Resources at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ.

“We aim at making the UAE the region’s information and communications technology (ICT) hub and encourage research and development in the ICT field. A lot of our efforts in these regards are focused on making communications throughout the country safe in support of the homeland security strategies. The ISNR 2012 Conference is an important platform for us to inform local, regional and international audiences of what we have accomplished so far and what we have planned for the future in regards to threats, such as identity theft and other forms of cyber-crimes as result of the sincere efforts made by our aeCERT team in this regard, which comes in line with our strategic goal of providing a safer cyber space for users in the UAE.” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

“Communication is a vital element of the homeland security equation, which is why we highly value the presence and support of the TRA. It is important for us to get such esteemed organizations together to develop more effective and unified approaches against today’s various security issues and threats,” added Mohamad Bader-Eddin, Show Director, Reed Exhibitions Middle East.
