The 14th Water, Energy, Technology & Environment Exhibition 2012 (WETEX) has successfully closed today, achieving great unprecedented success as it has attracted widespread praise from visitors both inside the UAE and visiting delegations, especially from Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Over the three days, delegations from ministries, government departments, major companies in the country and groups of students from universities, colleges and schools visited the exhibition. The total number of visitors from the UAE or abroad to this year’s exhibition reached 11,971.
“This year’s exhibition has placed the highest priority on the green economy in line with the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, under the theme ‘Green Economy For Sustainable Development.’ SmarTech@WETEX, designed for eco-friendly technologies, has been the cornerstone of educating and disseminating awareness of the importance of moderate consumption, preserving the environment and conserving resources for achieving sustainability for generations to come. Furthermore, Smartech@WETEX focused on renewable energy and the projects launched by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktourm Solar Park, the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, and many other initiatives in this regard,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Exhibition.
“Due to the huge turnout from national and international companies and organizations, DEWA has developed the Exhibition, which was designated only for water technologies since it first started in 1998, to be an international exhibition for water, energy and environment, in addition to oil and gas fields.”
“Over the past two years, the Exhibition witnessed great leaps as the number of exhibition halls reached eight halls this year in comparison to six halls in 2011, and the area of the Exhibition reached 33,000 square metres this year in comparison to 23,000 square metres in 2011. Furthermore, the number of national and international participating companies has increased from 715 in 2011 to 1,055 this year, the number of sponsors this year reached 46 in comparison to 20 in 2011, and the number of visitors this year is close to 12,000 in comparison to 9,000 visitors in 2011,” His Excellency said.
His Excellency concluded that next year’s exhibition will be held simultaneously with the 2nd Dubai Global Energy Forum from 15th to 17th April 2013. This will give both the exhibition and the forum significant importance as they are integrated. Dubai will mark another milestone and strengthen its reputable position in this vital sector just as it has become a global preferred hub for finance, business and tourism.
DEWA organized a daily draw for each day of the exhibition for visitors to encourage participation and also dedicated three important prizes for three winners.
