R&M Brings Fiber To The Living Room With New Splice Outlet

Published Sep 6, 2009
Swiss cabling specialist Reichle & De-Massari (R&M, www.rdm.com) announced it has developed a new outlet for fiber optic cabling for residential and commercial buildings: the FO splice outlet.

Available now in R&M’s African markets, the new FO splice outlet allows network operators and homeowners to extend fiber optic broadband all the way into individual rooms.

The solution is ideal for Internet TV, multimedia and high capacity data transmission.

The FO splice outlet is a wall outlet with four ports and integrated splice storage for optical fibers. The ports can be fitted with two LC duplex, SC or SC-RJ connector sockets.

The R&M outlet also accommodates a standardized Cat. 5e or Cat. 6/RJ45 connection module, allowing the hybrid use of fiber optic and copper cabling, providing maximum functionality in minimal space.

The splice storage unit can be mounted and opened with ease. Simple mounting shortens the time required for installation.

The construction ensures that the bending radius of the individual fibers does not fall below 15mm, thereby avoiding losses in signal transmission.

“We’re very pleased to be adding such an innovative product to our market leading product portfolio. Our new FO splice outlet blends well with R&M’s copper and fiber optic home cabling systems already on the market,” said Alfred Tharwat, Area Manager, Africa.

“And now with the new FO splice outlet coupled with our powerful and leading edge FTTx and FTTH solutions, customers can modularly expand their systems for everything from Central Offices to individual homes,” added Mr. Tharwat.

With a surface of 88 by 88 millimeters, the new FO splice outlet fits in standard outlet frames. The solution is ideal for retrofitting existing buildings, where space for additional installations is often at a premium and lean, easy to install systems are required.

The socket can be sealed and labeled. Colored dust caps can be employed to mark the individual ports. The adapters point downward to prevent any danger from laser beams.

R&M views itself as the leading supplier of comprehensive cabling solutions that guarantee the successful expansion of broadband access.

The R&M range for fiber optic home cabling also includes thin in house cables with four fibers and optimized bending characteristics.

They can be laid with ease even in tight spaces, so electricians can always find a path for installing them into the individual stories and rooms.
