Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, recently said, "The ministry aims to provide employment opportunities and increasing export capacity in the technology sector and the achievement of an integrated model of the Egyptian information society, especially that Egypt's exports of information technology sector has reached to nearly 580 million and is targeted to reach up to 1.1 billion dollars at the end of 2010".
This is in addition to providing an opportunity for national and foreign investments, which could help to maximize the return of the sovereign state as it has added 82 billion for the public treasury of the State during the period from 2005 - 2009 by receiving revenues from the Egyptian Company for Communications and the proceeds of the third mobile phone and third generation licenses.
The sector has provided 50,000 jobs during the last five years and is expected to double to 100,000 by the end of the completion of the new Smart Village extension.
The minister pointed out that we are targeting continued liberalization of telecommunications services and provide new resources for the public treasury of up to another fifteen billion pounds through 2012 from revenue sharing with telecom companies and the renewal of their licenses.
