Intel Corporation, the world leader in computing innovation, in collaboration with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, a leading research institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have launched CENA Day, a road show that includes a series of lectures to be delivered at universities across the Middle East. The events, set to take place from April 8 – 29, will present master and Ph.D. students and faculty members at CENA-affiliated universities with the opportunity to learn more about CENA scholarship and research opportunities while establishing a communication link with CENA research host IMEC, a world-leading research center in nano-electronics and technology located in Belgium.

Starting at Assiut University in Egypt on April 8 and ending at King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia on April 29, the CENA Day road show will hold events at nine universities in five countries including Palestine, Tunisia and Lebanon. Helping present CENA’s research details to universities are Intel’s Dr. Makarem Hussein, CENA Founding Director and distinguished representatives from IMEC.

Dr. Makarem Hussein of Intel said: “This is our second recruitment cycle. Today, CENA has 15 students conducting high calibre master’ and Ph.D. thesis research related to the applications of nano-manufacturing at our hosts’ facilities in Belgium. The CENA DAY events are meant to raise the awareness about CENA scholarship program and research vectors.”

“This collaboration and shared vision with Intel and commitment to building the region’s expertise in nano-manufacturing is being fulfilled through these talented students and their advising faculty members. CENA is indeed making a positive impact on the life of every CENA students,” Dr. Hussein added.

“We are very proud to be hosting these events and recruiting talent with our partners, KACST, and representing the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting advanced technology and enhancing graduate education in the Middle East and Turkey.”

When asked to summarize their experience with CENA at IMEC, the CENA students replied with great enthusiasm. Alaa Abdel-Naeim, a PhD student from Assiut University, said “At CENA, you can freely release your ideas and achieve your ultimate goal in scientific research.” Mohammad Qaid, a Masters student from KSU, hailed the research environment: “CENA is an exceptional scientific research environment-- it certainly promotes creativity!” Meanwhile, Tesleem Asafa, a student from KFUPM conducting his Ph.D. thesis research at CENA in IMEC, commented: “CENA is the future of Middle East nano-manufacturing!”

The focus of CENA is to conduct leading-edge research on advanced nano-processing and fabrication technology, including MEMS/NEMS, nano-sensors/network, nano-devices, and synthesis and deposition of nano-structures. CENA’s establishment is considered an important step towards growing knowledge-based economies and boosting advanced technology competitiveness and research on regional scale.
