In co-operation with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, Panasonic and UNESCO's World Heritage Centre in Al Ain are conducting an eco learning programme until 18 April, which is being attended daily by 100 school children aged 10 to 12.
The children are visiting various heritage sites including the Art Centre, Al Jimi Oasis and Al Qattara Oasis, where there are taking part in eco workshops, including Panasonic’s Eco Diary programme, a competition designed to encourage children to learn more about protecting the environment and where they can illustrate and express their eco ideas in writing.
The event and activities the children are taking part in are being filmed in a 2D/3D shoot with a Panasonic HDC-Z10000, the integrated twin-lens 3D camera recorder.
Last year, Panasonic Corporation and UNESCO's World Heritage Centre forged a strategic partnership to promote sustainable development through World Heritage conservation and environmental education for the next generation. Under the two year agreement, Panasonic and the World Heritage Centre are undertaking communication and educational activities to promote the World Heritage Eco Learning Programme and Eco Picture Diary Programme at World Heritage sites and raise awareness of the 40th anniversary of UNESCO's World Heritage Convention.
The programme has been successfully initiated in Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, the UAE and UK. Panasonic will subsequently initiate this programme at World Heritage sites around 10 countries in total including the UAE and Turkey, through which it aims to engage approximately 4,000 children by the end of this year.
The schedule for the 400 UAE school children involves programme presentation and discussion, an Eco Learning period, collection of Eco Picture Diaries and the selection of the a UAE programme contest winner.
“Educating our children and getting them involved and aware of the world they live in is very important if we want to leave behind a sustainable future. UNESCO is an authority when it comes to educating children and we are privileged and proud to be working with it to teach school children the importance of caring for the environment,” commented Mr. Seiji Koyanagi, Managing Director of Panasonic Marketing Middle East and Africa FZE.
Mr. Mohd. Amer Al Neyadi, Director of Historic Environment of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority said: "I am very happy to be a part of Panasonic's Eco Ideas initiative to bring about a healthier future. The lead role that Panasonic has undertaken through this activity under the agreement with UNESCO to encourage the learning programme is commendable. Panasonic is doing its part to make the environmental future brighter for everyone by planting the seed of environmental awareness in children's hearts."
Panasonic aims to be the "No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry" by 2018, its 100th anniversary. As part of its active contribution to environmental conservation, Panasonic has collaborated with the World Heritage Centre since 1995 to publish the World Heritage Calendar. The Centre is the Secretariat of the World Heritage Convention which leads the efforts to preserve cultural and natural heritage sites of outstanding universal value for future generations. The newly formed strategic partnership strengthens the relationship built on this successful collaboration over the years.
