Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, provides internet users around the world with 5 tips for using photos, videos and music online; to help ensure shared content is properly protected.
1. Don’t make it public: Ensure that content in social networks such as Facebook is not available to all users. Instead, publish for specified friends and family only and give access rights to these people only.
2. Unauthorised forwarding/use: Even if you allow a very limited group of people access to your photos, videos and/or music, these people may still forward these on to others. Always bear this in mind when sharing!
3. Beware of sensational events: If a celebrity dies or a disaster happens somewhere in the world, it won't be long before spammers start sending spam or Facebook messages which claim to contain spectacular pictures or videos of these happenings. Don’t let curiosity get the better of you and open these messages that will inevitably direct you to malware.
4. No pirate files: Stay clear of services and websites containing pirated videos and music. Not only is this a violation of copyright, but it's very risky too: you are opening your computer up to attacks from all sorts of malware.
5. Protect mobile content: Social networks often differentiate between normal and mobile content. Always ensure that your data protection settings apply to both forms.
Kaspersky Lab recently introduced Kaspersky One, a multi-platform, user-centric Universal Security solution that brings comprehensive protection for the wide range of personal devices, starting from personal computers and notebooks and all the way to smartphones and tablets.
