Published Sep 9, 2009

In its continuous endeavour to enhance reach and connectivity for residents of the UAE, Etisalat announced its collaboration with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), for the Dubai Metro project. The Dubai Metro is scheduled to be launched on 9th September 2009.

Etisalat has won the naming rights of the Al Qusais station, the start and destination point on the green line, which is scheduled to open in June 2010. The station will carry Etisalat’s name for the next 10 years under the naming agreement with the RTA. The Etisalat station will connect commuters from the Al Qusais area; while also serving as a mini technology hub showcasing the latest developments in UAE telecommunications industry.

Etisalat station will primarily serve travellers commuting everyday from Sharjah and Northern Emirates to Dubai. The station will also benefit many students travelling to Dubai Women's College, the Emirates Driving Institute and many other schools in that area. A further connectivity to these and other places in the area will be provided through the feeder bus service by the RTA.

Commenting on the Etisalat station, Mr. Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat said “Etisalat endeavours to extend reach of its customers by providing them technological means to connect. Our collaboration with the RTA for the historic Dubai Metro Project helps us in furthering our commitment, by providing physical connectivity through the Etisalat station, in addition to our all pervasive virtual connect. Etisalat is proud to be associated with this National project, and is committed to support the advancement of our national infrastructure, while serving the public at large”.

“With the development of the Etisalat station, Etisalat will launch several new initiatives for the Metro commuters in the coming months”, Mr. Julfar added.
