Kaspersky Lab - News Alert 6 for "Kasperskt One"

Published May 16, 2012

Nowadays, people stay connected wherever they go through their smart phones, which make them face higher risks when connecting to unknown networks in coffee shops, malls and other places. Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, provides 6 tips for a secure mobile internet access

1. Use baseline protection: Mobile malware is gaining ground. Plus, malware on websites does not differentiate between those who go online from home or from mobile devices. Baseline security software such as Kaspersky Mobile Security is therefore an absolute must for mobile devices.

2. Additional security functions: Password protection is even more important for smartphones than for computers at home. This is because these compact mobile devices are easily lost and may fall into the wrong hands. Always use password protection for your phone and ensure that the device is set to disable after a given number of incorrect consecutive password attempts. In addition, use encryption for sensitive data on your smartphone.

3. Trustworthy Apps: Apps bring that added extra to your Smartphone, for they add all sorts of new functions to your mobile device. But take care: Apps can contain malware, too. Besides anti-virus software, you should also make sure that the Apps come from trustworthy sources before installing them.

4. Data backup: Many mobile devices can work entirely without being connected to a PC. This is very practical, but is not without its risks: a defective mobile device may mean the loss of all your data. That’s why it makes sense to make an encrypted backup of your smartphone data on a PC.

5. Take care in WLAN networks: When it comes to security, UMTS connections are preferable to WLAN. Those who still use WLAN to access the web should ensure they use data encryption and avoid using it for sensitive matters such as online banking, etc.

6. Keep your mobile software always upgraded and protected: Keeping your mobile antivirus software updated is crucial. If the software is updated regularly, it will find even the newest threats before they have a chance to damage your device or infiltrate your personal data.

Kaspersky Lab recently introduced Kaspersky One, a multi-platform, user-centric Universal Security solution that brings comprehensive protection for the wide range of personal devices, starting from personal computers and notebooks and all the way to smartphones and tablets.
