CGC and Sepura present 1,000,000th TETRA radio to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior

Published May 24, 2012

Consolidated Gulf Co. (CGC), leading Qatari technology and engineering firm and its long standing TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) partner Sepura announced the delivery of Sepura’s one-millionth radio. This milestone event has special significance for Qatar as the one millionth radio is an STP8000 for the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Captain Khalefa Abdulla M. Al-Mansouri, Head of Ancillary Section, Ministry of Interior, Qatar, received Sepura’s 1,000,000th radio from Gordon Watling, CEO of Sepura, and Anil Mahajan, COO, CGC, at a customer event during the TETRA World Congress in Dubai recently. Brigadier Eng. Ali Salem Al-Henzab, Director of Telecommunications and Operations, MoI, and Gabriel D’mello, Senior Manager, CGC, were also present during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Al-Henzab said: “We’re delighted to celebrate such a remarkable milestone with Sepura and CGC. The decision to deploy Sepura STP8000 hand-portable TETRA radios was unanimous. We believe that the STP8000 stands out because of its 1.8W RF power - which delivers extended coverage, and for its high-capacity battery capability - which ensures reliable communications during longer shifts. Both of these features are of great value to Qatar Police”.

“Delivering our one-millionth radio is an achievement that we are extremely proud of because it demonstrates the leading role Sepura plays in the global adoption of TETRA”, says Gordon Watling. “The delivery to MoI marks Sepura and CGC’s joint commitment to Qatar where we are developing a strong customer base. With each new contract we demonstrate Sepura’s knowledge of the challenges facing communications in the region and the relevance of our expertise in meeting them. “We delivered our 500,000th radio in 2008. Another significance of today’s remarkable milestone is the considerably shorter time taken for Sepura to deliver the second 500,000th radio – this demonstrates our impressive levels of growth”.

Anil Mahajan congratulated MoI on receiving the exclusive millionth Sepura radio. “We at CGC are proud to serve MoI and 300 plus valued TETRA clients with over 10,000 end users in Qatar. Kudos to our strategic partner Sepura on achieving this great feat. Milestones like this emphasize our commitment as the first and foremost TETRA solutions and service provider in Qatar to effectively meet the needs of critical communication users. We have been addressing the communications requirements in a variety of sectors across a wide range of user organisations. The oil and gas and construction industries are also now showing extensive interest in Sepura’s Intrinsically Safe radio STP8X which provides optimum reliability in harsh conditions and in potentially explosive gas and dust environments.”
