Juniper Networks Announces New Features On E Series Broadband Service Router

Published Sep 13, 2009
Juniper Networks, Inc.,the leader in high performance networking, announced new features on the E Series Broadband Service Router designed to significantly extend the flexible management, investment protection and revenue generating capabilities that have helped the Juniper Networks E Series obtain leading market share.

Newly introduced features for the E Series include an advanced line module for the E320 Broadband Services Router and multiple IPv6 features that enhance existing service delivery capabilities.

'Broadband networking has evolved from basic connectivity and capacity to now include high level QoS for video and interactive services, and IPv6 for mobile and video applications. The Juniper Networks E Series has led this evolution with innovative features that have made it the market share leader for the BRAS market segment,' says Ray Mota, Chief Analyst at Synergy Research Group, a leading telecom analyst firm.

'According to our analysis, the E Series portfolio has held the number one market share in the BRAS segment since the fourth quarter of 2008 and we expect Juniper to continue to be competitive in this space as they further innovate in broadband technologies,' he added.

Ongoing Routing Innovation Key to Maintaining Market Share Lead

Since its introduction in 1999, the E Series has become the industry's most widely deployed broadband network gateway, resulting in shipments that could support 162 million worldwide broadband subscribers.

In addition, according to Synergy Research, Juniper has maintained leading market share of the BRAS market for the past six consecutive quarters, growing to 48 percent revenue market share in the second quarter of 2009.

That market success is in part attributable to ongoing feature enhancements and investments, as well as scheduled updates to JUNOSe Software, Juniper's carrier grade operating system for the E-Series with comprehensive quality of service (QoS) technology that supports revenue generating broadband voice, video and multi play services.

Broadband service adoption is fueled by increasing demand for sophisticated bundles of multi play services, media rich content and interactive applications such as online gaming, which in turn, is driving service providers to seek broadband edge solutions that efficiently provide high performance and scale.

Juniper is continuing to address these challenges with the new Advanced LM10A line module, which doubles the per slot subscriber density of the E320 while reducing the number of line modules required in the network, providing a significant reduction in capital expense and lower total cost of ownership.

The new IPv6 features for the E Series help promote seamless scaling with IPv6 support for dynamic subscriber interfaces, in service software upgrades and DHCPv6 local pools for dynamic IPv6 address assignment over Ethernet.

These new features work in conjunction with a broad set of currently supported IPv6 Broadband Service Routing features, including a unique 'dual stack' IPv6 and IPv4 capability, which facilitates increased investment protection migration to new, advanced revenue generating services.

'For more than a decade, Juniper has delivered innovative features in its E Series portfolio that fuel profitable broadband service offerings and ensure the long term investment protection that our wireline and mobile broadband customers need,' said Manoj Leelanivas, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Edge and Aggregation Business Unit at Juniper Networks.

'Delivering on a new Advanced LM10A line module and new IPv6 features reflect our ongoing commitment to addressing the diverse and demanding business requirements of our customers'.
