Nawras Successfully Completes First Stage Testing Of New Turbocharged Network In Wilayat Al Amerat

Published Jul 1, 2012

Nawras, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider, has completed the first stage of extensive testing ahead of turbocharging its network in Al Amerat. Over 40,000 people living and working in the Wilayat will be the first in the country to enjoy the new, enhanced 3G+ technology in September this year.

In preparation for turbocharging the network, Nawras has carefully surveyed and evaluated each individual site in Al Amerat to take into account the differing factors affecting the smooth operation of the base stations. All sites will shortly be offering the enhanced 3G+ service with much faster speeds and wider coverage giving a totally recharged broadband experience. The new technology will also lead to coverage reaching deeper into homes, offices and even large buildings.

It is worth noting that while customers will enjoy a significantly better 3G+ experience with the network recharge, prices for the service will not be increased. Network speed, capacity and reach will deliver higher quality levels while existing 3G+ tariffs will remain in place. Customers will be able to enjoy greater value for the same tariff.

Ross Cormack, Chief Executive Officer of Nawras, said, “The journey to turbocharge the network and bring a faster broadband service to our customers has already started with the core upgrade. Al Amerat is a densely populated area and is geographically challenging; it provides the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the significantly enhanced network and marks an exciting step forward for Nawras. We are excited for our customers in Al Amerat who will immediately notice the difference in download speeds through the use of the fast 3G+ broadband data services.”

He added, “We have listened to our customers and we know they are looking forward to the benefits of the turbocharged network. We are making our network deeper, wider and faster so all Nawras customers will enjoy a new communications experience.”

Testing is important to ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted service for customers when the enhanced 3G+ service goes live. The first test stage is already complete and sites are ready for the installation of the new technical equipment during July. This will be followed by further testing as in true Nawras style, all components of the new service will be thoroughly checked before launch.

Nawras recently joined forces with Huawei, a world leading information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider to turbocharge the Nawras Radio Access Network (RAN).

Through its extensive and innovative communications solutions, Nawras, a Qtel Group company, is making significant investments to meet the ever growing demand from customers for faster broadband data at home, at work and on the move.
