Nikon regionally launched its most powerful entry-level DX-format digital SLR camera today, the Nikon D3200, a model that combines the best of Nikon digital imaging technology with unprecedented ease of use. The camera possesses a brand new CMOS image sensor with an effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels, Nikon’s high-end EXPEED 3 image-processing engine and a revamped Guide mode function for simple and intuitive operation.
D3200 Highlights
The D3200 is an extremely portable, compact and lightweight entry-level model loaded with the latest digital SLR camera functions, and offers superior usability.
The combination of an all-new DX-format CMOS image sensor featuring an effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels with the same EXPEED 3 image-processing engine built into Nikon’s high-end D4 and D800/D800E cameras, puts the D3200 at the top of its class in terms of capturing images with high quality and definition.
What’s more, the D3200 also offers an improved Guide mode with new and updated functions that make using the camera even simpler. Along with Android smart devices compatibility, users can now transfer images or shoot remotely using the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a.
Primary Features – D3200
1. New Nikon DX-Format CMOS Image Sensor And Exclusive EXPEED 3 Image-Processing Engine
Featuring an effective pixel count of 24.2-million pixels along with standard sensitivities of ISO 100 to ISO 6400 and a Hi 1 setting equivalent to ISO 12800, The D3200 is equipped with a new Nikon DX-format CMOS image sensor and the EXPEED 3 image-processing engine, allowing users to shoot high-quality images at high sensitivities.
Optimized for digital SLR cameras, Nikon’s exclusive EXPEED 3 image-processing engine further enhances and maximizes the image sensor’s 24.2-million pixels; with its capabilities for superior high-speed performance allowing for faithful rendering, vivid color reproduction and a dynamic range of expression.
For example, the engine effectively suppresses noise using advanced noise-reduction processing; to produce still images that preserve the definition and sharpness of the image sensor’s 24.2-million pixels, even when shooting at high sensitivities under dim lighting. What’s more, special noise-reduction processing for movies maintains crisp, clear outlines in clips recorded in low-light situations.
Nikon’s EXPEED 3 image-processing engine represents the culmination of the company’s extensive image-processing know how and technologies that it has cultivated through the years.
2. Greatly Enhanced Guide Mode
Building upon the popular Guide mode, the D3200’s version is even more intuitive and makes camera operations easier than ever. Referencing instructions for shooting according to the situation, scene or subject, playing back and retouching images, as well as applying all types of settings are all available with a touch of a button.
Additional Assist Images and Text Explanations
With even more assist images now built into the D3200 and text explanations of scene details and how to adjust camera settings, users can preview picture-perfect results even before pressing the shutter release button.
Guide mode makes it fun and easy for users to capture beautiful images based on a variety of specific situations, such as Night portraitor Close-ups, or a technique they would like to apply, such as Soften backgrounds or Show water flowing.
All-New Options – Advanced Operation
Advanced operation is one of the first choices available to users when Guide mode is activated. New options include: Capture reds in sunsets – the camera adjusts white balance; Take bright photos and Take dark (low key) photos – the camera adjusts exposure; and Reduce blur – auto ISO sensitivity control is activated.
With these new options built into the D3200, users can more effectively capture beautiful photos, quickly learn various camera functions and achieve the results they desire at their own pace.
3. D-Movie Function – Record 1920 × 1080/30p Full HD Movies
Full-HD movies with superior picture quality can be recorded using the D-Movie function, with a press of the movie-record button located above the shutter-release button. Users can also adjust settings such as aperture value found in Guide mode. What’s more, the rich NIKKOR lens lineup allows movie lovers to fully express their art in the unique digital SLR camera manner using a variety of lenses ranging from wide-angle to telephoto lenses.
The D3200 also offers Full-time-servo AF (AF-F), a focus mode in which the camera focuses continuously to keep moving subjects clear and sharp while filming. Face-priority AF, optimal for recording portrait-like movies, and Subject-tracking AF, which tracks a subject as it moves through the frame are also available.
What’s more, users can view and edit recorded movies using the D3200; these functions have been improved, making post production work much easier by giving users a better idea of the results they can expect. The Start point and End point options for movie editing are now displayed on the same menu screen, enabling simultaneous trimming of unnecessary portions at the beginning and end of movies. Results can be previewed before the edited movie is saved. Individual movie frames can also be saved as still JPEG images. In addition, an external stereo microphone can be connected to the D3200, allowing film lovers to record stereo sound.
4. Approx. 921k-dot TFT 3-Inch LCD Monitor
With a wide viewing angle optimal for live view shooting, users simply press a button to activate the live view mode on the D3200. In live view mode, users can choose one of four AF-area modes: Normal-area AF, Wide-area AF, Subject-tracking AF, or Face-priority AF.
5. Smart Devices (Android) Compatibility – Wireless Transfer And Remote Shooting
The D3200 offers all-new ways for users to enjoy photography, and view and share images. Using the Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a, images can be transferred to smartphones, tablets and other smart devices via a wireless connection. Also, a smart device can act as a remote control for shooting with camera settings, shooting information – live view display – appearing on the device’s screen (remote movie recording is not supported).
