Samsung Notebooks Show 180% Market Growth For Q2 2009

Published Sep 13, 2009
Samsung Electronics, a market leader in consumer electronics and world leader in IT technology, announced that it has been named the fastest growing PC vendor in EMEA by Gartner, with a 180 percent growth in the second quarter over the corresponding period last year.

"Samsung may be a recent player in the mobile PC space, but we are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. Gartner’s report that Samsung grew 180 percent year on year is testimonial to our innovative products," said Madhav Narayan, General Manager, IT division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

“The very positive acceptance our notebooks and netbooks has encouraged us to further enhance our offerings. We are looking at the netbook segment as a clear growth driver for our mobile computing business going forward”.

According to DisplaySearch's Quarterly Notebook PC Shipment Forecast Report, the market for all portable PCs moved past 38 million units shipped in the Q209.

Netbooks continued to see the most significant growth in terms of units shipped, up 40 percent quarter over quarter.

"Consumers appreciate the full size keyboard and long battery life that separates Samsung netbooks from our competitors. Our NC10 and N120 have been very popular in the Middle East," added Narayan.

The latest range of Samsung netbooks and notebooks come with features like LED backlit displays in all models, lower power consumption, powered USB, Samsung utility software, Spill Proof keyboards and SRS surround sound solutions in select models.
