Middle East IT market Shows Strong Demand For SaaS-Based Analytical Solutions

The Middle East IT market is showing strong demand for ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) based analytical solutions, says SAS, the leading provider of business advisory and analytical intelligence.
This is in line with latest research from Gartner, which forecasts that the SaaS software market globally will grow by 22 per cent to hit a record USD 8 billion in 2009.
Amidst positive projections in terms of demand and market growth, SAS has announced that it is strengthening its resources to help SMBs and enterprises in the Middle East to lower costs and risks via the SaaS model.
Identified as one of the fastest growing segments of the information technology (IT) industry, SaaS is a delivery method that provides users remote access to software as a web based service, thereby resulting in more cost effective business functionality compared to paying for licensed applications.
In addition to cost savings, other core drivers of the growth of SaaS based applications in the region are the widespread availability of broadband connectivity to support the solution, and excellent functionality and value they offer to users.
As part of an aggressive expansion plan, SAS has recently invested in a USD 70 million facility in Cary, North Carolina, USA, that aims to address the growing demand for SaaS based solutions in the Middle East and across the globe.
“The current economic slowdown and its effects on organisations’ IT budgets’ have created a sizeable demand for SaaS based solutions, and our goal is to help companies in the Middle East maximise the optimum potential of this technology in their day to day operations,” said Carel Badenhorst, Head of Technology Practice, SAS Middle East.
“Today, as more IT managers recognise the benefits of SaaS, we continue to further the development of our SaaS based offerings, such as our investments into hosting our solutions in our own data centres to allow customers to access it via ordinary web browsers”.
IDC’s ‘Worldwide Business Intelligence Tools 2008 Vendor Shares’ report also notes that SAS was No. 2 in the Business Intelligence tools segment and among the top five suppliers of query, reporting and analysis tools.
SAS offers targeted business solutions that deliver competitive insights that are often hidden in data.
Organizations can then solve confidently complex business problems, reach evidence based decisions, manage for performance, achieve measurable business objectives, drive sustainable growth through innovation, and anticipate and manage change.
Among the solutions, which SAS is offering under the ‘SaaS’ model include ‘Business Intelligence’, ‘Anti Money Laundering’, ‘Web Analytics’, Marketing Mix Advisor’, ‘Revenue Optimization’ and ‘Campaign Management’.
“As the only market expected to witness an upward trend in the midst of a massive decline in the regional and global IT industry, SaaS has become one of our top priorities as far as delivering our software is concerned. In line with this, our goal is to help organisations in both the SMB and enterprise sectors eliminate the need to handle the installation, set up and maintenance of their software. Furthermore, we are committed towards helping clients save the cost of buying licenses in advance and instead run programs directly on their own computers,” concluded Badenhorst.
