Injazat Data Systems, the leading information technology and business process managed services provider in the UAE and the Middle East, is the bronze sponsor for the second edition of the annual “I PLAY SPORTS” initiative organized by the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) in partnership with the Emirates Foundation and running from September 6 to 10, 2009 at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
The daily games will be played from 9:30 to 11:30 pm and are expected to gather more than 400 supporters representing participating companies, sponsors and families.
“Diabetes has become a major health risk in the UAE, and yet its non hereditary causes can easily be avoided. While the government is doing its best to address this serious threat, companies can help by supporting initiatives that raise awareness on the disease and promote healthier attitudes among its employees and the general public. Injazat considers “I PLAY SPORTS” an excellent platform to concretize its support for both greater diabetes awareness and healthier living across the Emirates,” said Ali Al Neaimi, Executive Director of Client Care at Injazat Data Systems.
The UAE has the world’s second highest number of diabetes cases per capita, with one out of five residents aged 20 to 79 afflicted with the disease and 23 million years of life lost to it annually.
Around 80 per cent of Type 2 diabetes, the noninsulin dependent form of the illness, can be prevented if detected and treated early on and countered by a more active lifestyle, exercise, and a healthier diet.
Between AED367 to 734 million is spent annually to treat diabetes in the country.
