Panasonic’s New DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera Capable of Full-HD Video Recording

Published Aug 9, 2012

Panasonic’s new DMC-FZ200, a compact digital camera capable of full-HD video recording and featuring a 25mm ultra wide angle (24x) optical zoom lens was announced to the Middle East and Africa region today. The FZ200 features a stunningly bright F2.8 aperture in 600mm. This has never been achieved by any digital compact camera, which makes it possible to capture moving subjects clearly with fast shutter speed, even at great distances.

“The FZ200 is a super-feature-packed model. We at Panasonic always strive to deliver the Best Camera in each Class or Type. We do not believe is pursuing High Zoom number for those customers who want the Best Bridge cameras. Features such as Full-Range F2.8, Nano Surface Coating, RAW Image processing, and many more, make the FZ200 the absolute Best Bridge Camera in the market.”, commented Hitesh Ojha, Deputy General Manager – Digital Imaging Group, Panasonic marketing Middle East and Africa.

The LUMIX’s popular FZ series packs a powerful optical zoom and boasts superior controllability, including manual operation both for photo and full-HD video recording. Also, the powerful 24x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm) and the Intelligent Resolution technology help to maintain picture quality, even when using digital zoom.

The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) helps to minimize blur even when using powerful zoom and the Active Mode effectively suppresses handshake vibration in video recording. The new FZ200 also comes with Panasonic’s Black Box technology of Nano Surface Coating technology; a special costing on the high quality Leica Lens which minimizes light reflection that causes annoying nuances of ghosting effect and un-wanted flare.

The camera also features a newly developed 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor. Combined with the advanced image processor Venus Engine, this gives the FZ200 a high speed response and images are of excellent quality, even in high sensitivity recording.

The camera is capable of high speed burst shooting at 12 fps in full resolution and the Light Speed AF help to catch the most fleeting shooting opportunities together with the quick start-up time of approx. 0.95 sec. The newly designed 0.2-inch high resolution EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) features 1.3 million-dots, and a 100% field of view with minimum screen freeze. Together with the Light Speed AF and quick start-up, the DMC-FZ200 responds to the speed demanded of high-end users to capture the most fleeting shooting opportunities.

The FZ200 records 1,920 x 1,080 50p (PAL) full-HD video recording in AVCHD progressive / MP4 with high quality stereo sound. The powerful 24x optical zoom and manual control are also available in video recording to make the video more attractive.

Featuring stunning optical performance that no other compact digital camera can offer, the FZ200 realizes high shooting performance to even satisfy advanced photographers with its bright, high quality photo and video.

1. Full range F2.8, Powerful 24x Optical Zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens with Nano Surface Coating

Comprising of 14 elements in 11 groups, including 1 UHR lens, 3 ED lenses and 5 Aspherical lenses with 9 Aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit achieves an outstandingly compact body while delivering exceptional optical performance, suppressing distortion at wide end and color bleeding at tele end. To achieve full range F2.8 with shallow depth of field, high precision correction performance against distortion is indispensable. Panasonic integrates 5 aspherical lenses and 3 ED lenses into the FZ200 to pass Leica's stringent standards. Notably, the figure accuracy required for the Aspherical lens is only within 0.1 um, which can be managed by the unparalleled mold technology of Panasonic Yamagata Factory.

2. New 12.1-Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and Venus Engine for High Speed Response and High Picture Quality
The 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor is newly developed for FZ200. Together with the high performance image processing LSI Venus Engine, it elevates the response, sensitivity and image quality of the FZ200.

Integrating the high speed digital signal output technology, the FZ200 shoots 12 fps in full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5.5 fps with continuous AF. It also contributes to the Light Speed AF. Together with the quick start-up time of approx. 0.95 sec., FZ200 never misses the most fleeting shooting opportunities.

In addition to the conventional SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, the DMC-FZ200 comply with UHS-I(Ultra High Speed-I) standard SDHC/SDXC Memory Card for higher speed data transfer by minimizing writing time which is effective for high speed burst shooting.
The new High Sensitivity MOS sensor boasts excellent S/N ratio resulting in super clear image with less noise even in high sensitivity recording.

3. The 1,920 x 1,080 50p (PAL) Full-HD Video Recording in the AVCHD Progressive Format and MP4

The LUMIX FZ200 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful full-HD videos. The DMC-FZ200 can record high-resolution full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 50p (PAL) videos in AVCHD Progressive (MPEG-4 / H.264) format. The AVCHD Progressive format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc players and the video can be played back by just inserting an SDXC/SDHC/SD Memory Card or by connecting with mini HDMI cable.

A special, separate button on the top lets the user instantly start recording videos while shooting photos without having to make any extra settings. Alternately, users can choose MP4 at 25p (PAL) for video recording, which has higher compatibility with PCs.

In addition, the FZ200 goes further than simply recording HD videos. Apart from the video recording capability of conventional digital compact cameras, the FZ200 also features a Creative Video mode, which lets the user set the shutter speed and aperture manually to make even more impressive videos.

4. Intuitive Manual Control and Creative Options in Shooting-style Design
Full manual control is available with FZ200 for advanced users to enjoy more creative photography. With its P/A/S/M mode, users can enjoy creative shooting expressing their intention not only in photo but also in video.

The popular Creative Control mode now features 14 filter options thanks to the addition of eight new additions: Soft Focus, Dynamic Monochrome, Impressive Art, One Point Color, Cross Process, Low Key, Toy Effect and Star Filter in addition to the conventional Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, Miniature Effect mode. Some parameters in each mode can be also adjustable. Photo Style is also available for the expression of finer nuance with Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait and Custom preset options.
