Apple Confirms iPhone 5 True Identity

Published Sep 10, 2012

Technology giant Apple has confirmed that it will launch the much-anticipated iPhone 5 on 12 September. Members of the media received an invitation to the launch event, which featured the date and the shadow of the number five.

Meanwhile Apple news website iMore revealed that “recent parts leaks and dummy phones are accurate representations of what the new iPhone (iPhone 5,1) will look like when Apple announces it on September 12, 2012.”

While the new iPhone will look very similar in design to the iPhone 4 and 4S, there will be a number of changes and improvements – most notably the larger 4-inch screen which will have an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The back of the phone will also feature a metallic plate across it, will have a new miniaturized docking connector, and the 3.5mm headset jack has been moved to the bottom.

The design and features of the iPhone 5 has been the subject of much discussion – fuelled by rumours - up to the announcement of the press event.

At this year’s IFA electronics show in Germany, a dummy unit which represented near-final hardware was caught on video, while a fully-assembled chassis was snapped on camera in August.

“Conspiracy theories have been floated suggesting Apple is deliberately leaking false parts or a discarded prototype to create a bigger surprise come September 12. If that’s the case, they’re spending a lot of time, effort, and money, and doing it at an incredible scale,” iMore added.

Adding to the list of rumours, the iPad Mini is not expected to make its appearance at next week’s event, as an announcement regarding that project will only be made in October.
